Robert Clem Obituary

Robert Edward Clem

Vero Beach

Robert Edward Clem passed away in Vero Beach on July 19, 2017. Bob was born December 12, 1940 in Gainesville, Florida. He was the son of Chester Clem Sr. and Ruth M. Clem and grew up in Gainesville, attending Kirby Smith Elementary and graduating from Gainesville High School in 1959. Bob later attended and graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa with a liberal arts degree.

Over his long life, Bob engaged in various business and sales endeavors. His outgoing personality and wit made him a quick success with everyone coming in contact with him. Most of all, Bob had a penchant for travel both in the U.S. and into many foreign lands. It was said of him that there was no country he had not visited. That may have been a slight exaggeration, but did not miss the mark by much. Even after visiting foreign countries for months at a time, Bob would return more convinced than ever that the good old USA was the only place to live. His family and friends concur that in trying to describe Bob; the statement that "He was a free spirit" sums it up pretty well.

Bob spent much of his later life in close contact with his mother, his brother Chester, and Chester's family in Vero Beach. Bob lived in St. Augustine Florida, for many years and moved to Vero Beach in 2014.

Bob is survived by his brother Chester of Vero Beach and his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Nephews are Alexander "Zander" (Carmen), Jeffrey, and Chester III (Stacy) (sons of Tilley Murphree Clem), and nieces Mary Katherine (Mary Kate) and Elizabeth (Liz), daughters of Kay and Chester Clem. Grandnieces Cristina and Isabella and grandnephew Alexander III.

There will be no formal funeral with the family holding a celebration of his life at a later time. It is requested that there be no flowers with any remembrance being made to Indian River Land Trust, 80 Royal Palm Pointe, Vero Beach, Florida, 32960.

Bob and I became good friends during his tenure in St. Augustine, Fl. We shared numerous dinners together, many at my condo, where Bob would show up at exactly 5pm, V.O. in hand to "hold court." Bob showed my wife and I so many interesting and obscure places in the northern Florida area and shared numerous stories to accompany each trip. I'll miss him.

May the God of all comfort strengthen the family during this time of deep sorrow. Those who pass on, God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. My sincerest condolences. Psalm 116:15

I'm so sorry to hear about Bob. My best memories of him are sitting on the porch at the Blue Cypress lake house, enjoying a cold drink, hearing his stories. And what stories they were!! He led an amazing life, full of adventures. Thinking of Chester and Kay, and all the Clem family.
