Thomas McManus Obituary

Thomas L. McManus, 87, died March 15, 2007, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. He was born in Boston and lived in Wakefield since 1952. He was a winter resident of Vero Beach. He served in the Army during World War II as a signal corpsman with the 6th Signal Liaison Team. Before retirement, he was the owner of McManus Ford in Wakefield, which he established in 1952 and later acquired Cutler Motors of Melrose, Mass. He was a graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., and Dartmouth College, Class of 1943, in Massachusetts. He was a member of the Wakefield Rotary Club, the American Legion Post 63, a life member of the Wakefield Elks Lodge 1266 and the North American Auto Dealers Association and was a recipient of many dealership awards. Also he was an original member of the 929ers Banjgo Club in Wakefield. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Rose Marie McManus; son, Thomas L. McManus Jr. of Marblehead, Mass.; daughters, Diane M. McManus of Stockbridge, Mass., and Linda McManus of Swampscott, Mass.; sister, Claire McManus of Shrewsbury, Mass.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert McManus, and sister, Blanche Dickey. Memorial contributions may be made to the River Brook Residence 4 Ice Glen Road, Stockbridge, MA 01262. SERVICES: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. March 19 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield. A service will be at 9 a.m. March 20 at the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Athanasius Church in Reading, Mass. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
