Daniel Robbins Obituary

Daniel C. Robbins, Sr., 82, of Sutton Ave., died peacefully on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia A. (Steffen) Robbins of Oxford; nine children: Lee A. Kimball and her husband Robert of Oxford, Daniel C. Robbins Jr. and his wife Irena of Oxford, Patricia M. Robbins of Oxford, James P. Robbins and his wife Lori of Oxford, Michael J. Robbins and his wife Bonnie of Thompson, CT, Kevin F. Robbins and his wife Tammy of Oxford, Jean E. Robbins-Sweet and her husband Jay of Charlton, Jane M. Dupuis and her husband Bill of Oxford, and Joan M. Robbins-Daniels and her husband Louis of Oxford; 22 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Robbins. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Frank and Margaret (O'Brien) Robbins, and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. He graduated from Oxford High School and Worcester Junior College. Mr. Robbins was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Robbins owned and operated Robbins Companies in Oxford, where he worked for 72 years before entering semi-retirement several years ago. He was a former selectman in Oxford, and was a member of the Industrial Commission, Finance Committee, and the Oxford Business Association. Many years ago, Mr. Robbins was involved in the Mohegan Council of Boy Scouts of America and was active in the Campfire Girls Council. He was a member of the American Legion Post 58 in Oxford. He enjoyed traveling and flying his airplane, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Friends are respectfully requested to meet directly at church. Burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery, Oxford. Calling hours are Friday, June 3, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, checks can be made payable to "Journey of Hope" and mailed to the Worcester Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box 845945, Boston, MA 02284.
