Dixie Andrews Obituary

Dixie N. Andrews

Uxbridge - Dixie (Nelson) Andrews, 76, of Uxbridge passed away Sat. July 5, 2014 in Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Ctr., Northbridge of lung cancer after a brief illness. She was the wife of John R. Andrews III. She was born Dec. 15, 1937 in Worcester, the daughter of the late Victor J. and Elizabeth (Rosenthal) Nelson and had been a resident of Uxbridge for 53 years.

Dixie was a graduate of Douglas High School and the American Institute of Banking. She was employed by the former Mechanics Savings Bank and the Uxbridge Saving Bank. Dixie was active in the First Evangelical Congregational Church in Uxbridge and had served as its treasurer. At the time of her death, she was a trustee of the church as well as the treasurer of Andrews Survey & Engineering, which she established with her husband in 1978.

She was also a dedicated and accomplished china painter. She was the secretary of the Nashoba Valley Chapter of the Historical Society of Early American Decorating and a member of the Adirondack China Painting Club. Dixie also served as an election official for the Town of Uxbridge for over 40 years and served for several years as an election warden.

In addition to her husband John of 54 years, she is survived by her children, Byron J. and his wife Linda Andrews of Uxbridge and Jill A. and her husband Brody Reese of Uxbridge; a sister, Elizabeth and her husband Robert Carter of Dover, PA; three grandchildren, Iain Andrews, Sarah Reese and Haley Reese all of Uxbridge; three nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by a brother, William Nelson.

Visiting hours will be held Wed. July 9, 2014 from 5–8 PM in BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 N. Main St., Rt. 122, Uxbridge. Funeral services will be Thursday July 10, 2014 at 11 AM in the funeral home.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Joseph Antaki, the staff of Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehab., and VNA & Hospice of Greater Milford.
