Dorothy Filiberti Obituary

Dorothy Anna Filiberti

SHREWSBURY - Dorothy Anna (Lanser) Filiberti, 91, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2014 at her home in Southgate at Shrewsbury after a long illness. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse A. Filiberti, who died suddenly in 1961, and her sister, Muriel Simonelli, who died in 2010. Dorothy is survived by her son and only child, Dr. Allen W. Filiberti, his spouse, Yda C. Filiberti, and their two children, David and Arielle Filiberti.

Dorothy was born and lived most of her life in Queens, New York. After losing her husband at a young age, she worked for many years as a secretary in the dietary department of Flushing Hospital in Queens. She retired after a long career and moved to Massachusetts in 2004 to be near her family.

There will be no calling hours. Dorothy will be buried in a private ceremony next to her beloved husband in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Queens, New York. Dorothy loved animals, especially dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606, or online at www.worcesterarl.org. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the caregivers whose kindness and support enabled Dorothy to remain in her home during this difficult time, with special thanks to Dr. Deborah Ford.
