Eileen Digregorio Obituary

Eileen (Houlihan) DiGregorio, 87

WORCESTER - Eileen (Houlihan) DiGregorio, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2015, in the loving care and presence of her family and the staff at Saint Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Eileen was the daughter of Samuel and Helen V. (Cotter) Houlihan. After living many years in Worcester, 12 years in Holden and 10 years in Vero Beach, Florida, Eileen and her husband, Leo moved back to Worcester in 2013 to be closer to their family.

She leaves her beloved husband of 62 years, Leo J. DiGregorio; her two sons, Leo J. DiGregorio and his wife, Ann of Holden and Raymond F. DiGregorio of Worcester; her daughter, Helen LaJeunesse of Worcester; four grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Joseph DiGregorio, and Eileen LaJeunesse. She is predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and John Houlihan.

Eileen graduated from St. Stephen's High School in Worcester and Saint Vincent School of Nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester City Hospital and Fairlawn Hospital. After raising her three children, Eileen furthered her education, graduating from Worcester State College with a degree in psychology and attended graduate school at Boston College.

Eileen actively volunteered as a court - appointed advocate for children with The Casa Project, Inc. in Worcester. She never viewed her age as an obstacle or a challenge. In her fifties, she starting running as a form of exercise and participated in numerous road races including the Falmouth Road Race, which she ran several times right up into her seventies. Eileen also enjoyed oil painting, traveling, sewing and spending time with her cats. Most of all, she enjoyed the company of her husband, children and grandchildren.

The family would like extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Tatnuck Park Assisted Living in Worcester for their committed care and compassion to Eileen's well-being over the last year.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Eileen's family from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, February 11, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a funeral service honoring her life at 12 noon. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery in Worcester. Memorial donations may be made in Eileen's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472. To Eileen's family,
What a loss! Eileen was a dear friend to my mother, Ann Silverman (1911-2006). The two met in night school when they were both taking classes. May the life-long values and love Eileen passed on to her family live forever.
Sincerely,
Deena Madnick
