John J. "Jack" Aborn Jr.

John Aborn Obituary

John J. "Jack" Aborn, Jr., 59, of Norwood, died on December 13 after a brief illness. The son of the late Bernice (Hunt) and John J. Aborn, Sr., Jack was raised in Tolland, CT and graduated from Ellington High School in 1966. He received a BS in business in 1970 and an MBA in 1974, both from Boston University. Jack served as a financial planner at Eastern Gas and Fuel Associaties and at Boston Gas Co. from 1974 to 1982, representing these utilities at national EPA hearings. He was a computer analyst and programmer for Comshare, Inc. until 1988. For the past twenty years, he ran his own business, providing consulting services in accounting program design and implementation to a variety of corporations.

A resident of Norwood since 1971, Jack was an avid sportsman, and excelled at competitive target archery. An archery line judge since 1994, Jack adjudicated at the state and national levels, recently serving as the head judge at the National Archery Championships in Colorado and also at the Olympic Trials. His devotion to sportsmanship and his interest in encouraging young athletes led him to play an integral role in the inclusion of archery in the Bay State Games and the creation of the State Archery Association of Massachusetts.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Katherine B. Aborn of Upton; his son, James H. Aborn of Somerville; and their mother, Sheila Aborn Lockwood of Norwood.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Thursday at 10 AM at the First Congregational Church, 100 Winter St., Norwood. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols St., Norwood. Interment will be on Friday at 10 a.m in North Cemetery, Tolland, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Special Olympics Massachusetts, Attn: Donations, 450 Maple St., Building 1, Danvers, MA 01923 would be appreciated.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of a very dear friend of mine from a much simpler time in our lives. Jack was a good man and we shared many a long night working for Comshare in the early 1980's. He was a good friend, intelligent & sharing mentor, and just a great guy. He and I shared a lot during those years and I am a better person for having that opportunity...Take care of yourself my good friend, I look forward to seeing you again....
