Mary Belsito Obituary
WORCESTER - Mary E. (Athy) Belsito, 66, of Worcester, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015 at the UMass-Memorial Medical Center after being stricken ill at home.
She leaves her husband of 42 years, Paul M. Belsito; a son Paul A. Belsito and his wife Christienne Bik of Shrewsbury; a daughter Elizabeth Belsito of Worcester; a grandson, Matthew Belsito; two brothers, Andrew Athy Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Anthony Athy of Worcester; three sisters, Paula A. Lyons of Boston, Susan Athy and Aileen Athy, both of Alexandria, Va., and many nieces and nephews. Her son Andrew M. Belsito predeceased her in 2008.
Mary was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Andrew A. and Mary F. (Murphy) Athy. She lived in Worcester all her life. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and the former Chamberlain School for Retailing in Boston.
Mary worked many years in management at the Filene's department store and the Filene's Basement store, both in Worcester. She also worked with her husband at Belsito's Auto Center for many years.
Mary loved people and was blessed with a great sense of humor marked by her inescapable wry wit. Her infectious enthusiasm gave extra life to every event she ever attended. Although she enjoyed Cape Cod and so many other places, Worcester was her home where she found so many loyal lifelong friends. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mary's family wishes to thank the staff and her friends at Summit ElderCare program on Grafton St. for expanding her horizons for the past several years, especially caretakers Martha and Sonia.
Calling hours are Thursday, May 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Friday, May 8 from the funeral home with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. John's Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Stroke Association, Attn: Teddy's Team, 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451 or to Abby's House, 52 High St., Worcester, MA 01609. Any checks graciously offered should be designated: "In memory of Mary E. Belsito."

Mary was a fine and extraordinary lady from a fine and extraordinary family! She had a vibrant interest in our community, and a lively and enthusiastic sense of humor that naturally drew people to her. It is hard not to think of her without smiling in remembrance of her wry quips, keen insight into people and events, and gentle, warm-hearted good nature. Just to have known her was a true blessing, and a special memory!
