Richard Severance Obituary
NORTH BROOKFIELD - Richard J. Severance, 55, of 3 East Brookfield Rd., died Monday, January 9, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Joann; his children Ryan & his fianceé Ashley Barry of Dedham and Kathryn of North Brookfield; a sister, Martha E. Severance & her husband Charles J. LaTendresse of Grundy Center, Iowa; a brother Thomas Severance & his wife Janet of Marion,MA.; nieces; nephews and two great nieces.
Rich was born in Ware, MA. the son of Thomas F. and Margaret M. (Moore) Severance and was a lifelong resident of North Brookfield. He graduated from North Brookfield High in 1979. He was well-known in the building industry through his 28 years as the Hardware Store Manager of Howe Lumber Company in East Brookfield, MA. He was a member of the New Braintree Grange #170 and a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, in North Brookfield, MA. He was a proud supporter of the College of the Holy Cross' Parents' Fund, the Assumption College Annual Fund, and a number of Catholic charities.
Rich was a loving husband and celebrated his 30th anniversary with Joann in Cape Cod in 2016. He was a dedicated father who played an active role in his children's lives, helping put them through college. He was a devoted son who maintained a close relationship with his parents, caring deeply for them as they aged.
Loved ones and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, January 13, from 4-6 p.m. in Pillsbury Funeral Home 44 Gilbert St. N. Brookfield. A funeral Mass for Rich will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 296 Main St., N. Brookfield.Burial will be private in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will be served in St. Joseph's Church hall after the funeral. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 28 Mt. Pleasant St., North Brookfield 01535. I am sorry for your loss Katie, Joann and Ryan. Richard was an amazing and loving husband and father. I remember I would stop by your home often over the years, and Katie and I would end up talking with her father pleasantly. Often times we ended up in laughter. I hope he finds peace with God and his late parents.

It was only just this morning that I learned of the passing of Rich. That is as sad a bit of news as I've heard in a very long time. Rich was one of the reasons I always enjoyed doing business with Howe Lumber. No matter how busy he was, he would drop everything to help you find whatever it was you needed, and would take the time to explain how to use it---even if the thing might've only cost a couple of bucks.
What a blow to his family, his church, his community, and the Howe Lumber gang. I never met a man more proud of his two kids and his school teacher wife than Rich, and his eyes would light up when he related their latest accomplishments and new ventures.
Much too good of a man, a father, a husband, a faithful employee, and a citizen to be taken so early.
Prayers up for strength for his family to carry them through the difficult days ahead.
