To the Coleman Family,
He was a great teacher who cared about all of us. Really was like a family in the 5th and 6th grade classroom. We learned a lot, tried to push the envelope - with some mixed results. How many other students had an experience where you were able to do some light construction in an elementary classroom. We didn't make a napkin holder, we built a loft. Pretty cool. Nice man will miss him a bunch.

The U/Mass Peace Corps/Teacher Corps experience at U/Mass and in Worcester during the late 60's & early 70's gave me and others the opportunity to be touched by by Leo, a kindred spirit and unique individual whose uplifting and enhancing mark on the world will suvive through generations, for he assisted many throughout his life. He was a soldier of the spirit, an educator, a courageous citizen, a comrade and a friend to mankind. Thank you, Leo, for being in my life.

To the Coleman family,
I am sorry for your loss. I had the good fortune of having Mr. Coleman as my 6th grade teacher at Adams Street School. He will always be remembered as a kind and gifted teacher who loved history and inspired his students to read and learn.

Leo was a beautiful soul, dedicated to all in his well-chosen profession. I appreciated his courage and wisdom in becoming an active participant in our Teacher Corps program (1969-71) and always enjoyed his company. The world is undoubtedly a better place as a result of Leo's having passed through it.

To My Second Family: I will miss him so much. Saying good-bye today was really hard, but seeing everyone gathered to celebrate his life made it easier to endure this sorrowful day. A woman behind me in church tapped me on the shoulder at the end of mass and asked me how I knew him. After explaining our connection she nodded and said simply, "He was a wonderful man." That's an understatement.

Dear Coleman Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I only had the opportunity to meet Leo a few times, but Lynda shared many stories with me back in our Cablevision days. May you find the peace and strength to get through the difficult days and months to come. All my best.

Leo's sweet sense of humor, his willingness to listen to new ideas and take on innovative projects, plus his experience teaching in Worcester public schools, made him an invaluable Team Leader in our Teacher Corps program. We mourn his passing so soon.

To Shirley and family...My deepest sympathy on your loss. I am grateful that we could all get together last month to bring some sunshine into Leo's day. I will always remember the many visits we all had together, both in your home as well as over coffee at Lincoln Plaza . Leo was a special guy and the first friend I made on joining the Worcester Men of Song back in 1970. May the many wonderful memories you have of him and the legacy of music he left to Cathy, Lynda and Karen sustain you all at this sad moment in your lives. And Leo, my old friend, may you rest in peace until we meet again. God Bless...... Dick Fougere

I will miss Leo. Every time we were together he brightened my life. He enriched the lives of so many students, both children and adult learners. He was an important member of the Teacher Corps program in Worcester, where he and I first met, and I know that many of our Teacher Corps friends will be saddened with the news of his passing. I am thinking about Cathy, Shirley and other family members and want you to know that many, many people share your loss.

To the Coleman Family--My older brother and I had your Dad for 5th grade at Andover St School and then my sons had him for 5th grade at Greendale--he was a wonderful man--kind and caring and will always hold a special place in my family's heart. He was singing in SPEBSQSA with our dad for many years and our Dad often said what a "nice young man" we had as a teacher. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. He was a lovely human being and made such an impression in his students' lives. Running into him from time to time was always special. It was a gift to have known him. Our heartfelt sympathy.

To the Coleman family,
Mr. Coleman taught me at Norrback Avenue School (Worc., MA) in 1966. I still have the report card he gave me. I always remembered his kind spirit and the encouragement he gave a group of 4th graders to do their best and they would succeed in life. Although most saw it as a challenge for a 9 year old to order the book "Profiles in Courage" from the scholastic book club, Mr. C. encouraged me to do so. Now I know why after reading his own biography. I never saw Mr. Coleman again, but he left an everlasting impression on me. Thank you for sharing your husband and father with so many students over the years. May his memory be eternal.

To the Coleman family,
I will always remember Mr. Coleman who taught my 6th grade class at Adams St school in the late 70's. He was such a warm gifted man and teacher. It was so great to see him the past 2 years down at East Park. He was so much more then a teacher to many of us who grew up in the Shrewsbury St neighborhoods, he became a real friend, who many of relied on for many different reasons(mine was to get me out of trouble)as other just wanted to listen to his stories about defending our country. May God welcome him into his home where one day we all will meet again.

March 30, 2012

Fernando and Norma Hall, Leo's neighbors across the street will miss Leo's friendship. He was the first one to welcome us when we moved to the neighborhood, 16 years ago. May God bless, comfort, and strengthen his family always.

March 30, 2012

God looked around His garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
