Robert Secino Obituary

Dr. Robert F. Secino, 87, passed away after a short illness on July 27, 2009 at LifePath Hospice in Florida. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children. He had resided in Florida the last 12 years with his wife Norma.

Bob leaves Norma his wife of 57 years. His daughter, Andrea Shaffer, preceded him in death. His surviving family includes 5 daughters, Carla Secino, Gina Secino, Norma Johnson and husband Steve, Ramona Barton and husband Bob and Jane Secino; also his son, Robert T. Secino and wife Diane. Bob leaves his 10 beloved grandchildren, Paula, Erick, Michael, Rob, Christina, Anna, Jenna, Marissa, Ben and Darin. He also leaves 2 brothers, Joseph Secino, Richard Secino and wife Pat; 2 sisters Evelyn Chester and husband Tony and Betty Ann Rhodes.

Bob was born in Fitchburg on February 20, 1922, the son of Thomas and Jane (Lee Coy) Secino. In 1955 he settled down in Shrewsbury where he raised his 7 children. Bob's commitment in life was his family.

Following graduation from Fitchburg H.S., Bob went on to receive his degree at Boston University. His passion for schooling and desire for knowledge led him to the University of Pennsylvania where he received his doctorate in dental surgery. Continuing his quest to excel in dentistry, Bob attended Harvard School of Dental Medicine at Harvard University in the early 1980's to expand his dental expertise. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Coast Guard.

Bob then spent 47 years as a practicing dentist in Worcester. He was considered an artist when it came to his talent and devotion to his profession. In 1996 after a fulfilling career in his field, Bob and Norma retired to Florida and realized a life long dream when they built their "Wow Wow" house. Always known for his sense of humor and quick wit, those that had the pleasure of meeting Bob's alter ego "Rusty Crumb" could always count on a good laugh and a smile on their face.

In retirement, Bob embarked on his second successful career. He was a passionate and relentless researcher who mastered the extraordinarily difficult world of investing on Wall Street. Along with numerous other achievements in life was his enjoyment of numismatics and stamp collecting as his favorite hobbies.

Bob had a thirst for knowledge and education. "Isn't it great that our grandchildren are so wonderfully gifted by their perseverance and accomplishments" he would say. His love of family was the single biggest factor in his life…….Remember…"No Rain, No Rainbows".

Dad will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife, children, grandchildren and many family members…."There's no denying that!"

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday August 15, at 9:30 AM in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 350 Plantation St. Worcester, MA 01605.

Peter and I send sincerest sympathy to Norma and your family. I was Dr. Secino's dental assistant in the last 50's and early 60's. He came to our wedding 48 years ago. Mom would come to the office with her beautiful girls dressed in their school dresses and Robert would be the "chess" champion. He was so proud of all of you. He was a bright caring person with a good sense of humor. Always remember the wonderful times you had together. Eileen Cohen Levenson

My sincerest sympathy to the family. My parents (Raymond and Signe), my brother Douglas and I were long time patients of Dr. Secino. We always enjoyed seeing Norma and the girls working in his office.
