William Bagley Obituary

William F. Bagley, 92

WORCESTER - William Francis Bagley, 92, late of Centerville, Massachusetts and recently a resident of St. Mary's Health Center in Worcester, died on March 14, 2017 after bravely fighting an illness.

He was recently predeceased by his dear wife Anna, and earlier, by his parents Raymond and Irene Bagley and two brothers Raymond and Edward.

He leaves three sons, William F. Bagley, Jr. and his wife Mary of Worcester, Thomas S. Bagley of Centerville, MA and James M. Bagley and his wife Beatrice of Fairfield, CT., grandchildren Sarah M. Bagley, M.D., Lauren Bagley Noonan, William F. Bagley III, James M. Bagley, Jr., Thomas S. Bagley, Jr., Andrew MacK. Bagley and Anna K. Bagley. He left great-grandchildren Lucy Bagley Feldman, Theodore Bagley Feldman, Thomas Noonan, Elizabeth Noonan and James M. Bagley, III.

Bill and Anna resided in Uxbridge and in Manhattan prior to their 37 years in Centerville. Bill graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Milford, MA where he met Anna. After a period of study interrupted by World War II, he would graduate from Providence College in 1949. His wartime service was with the Army where, as one of a generation of very young soldiers, he saw action on D-Day and in the Battle of the Bulge.

After college he and Anna married and Bill embarked upon a long and accomplished career in business … first with State Mutual Life Assurance Company and ultimately retiring as director of agencies for The Guardian Life Insurance Company. He held designation as a Certified Life Underwriter (CLU). He volunteered actively at church, on behalf of St. John's of Shrewsbury (where he proudly served as the first president of the Parents' Association) and for PC (where he became the first president of the PC Club of Worcester County). He was especially proud to have spearheaded an appearance in Worcester of the Boston Pops with Arthur Fiedler. Still, nothing mattered so much to him as his family.

Devoted to his wife, his children and their families, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, there was nothing Bill would not do on their behalf. To that family, including nieces and nephews, he was a source of strength, kindness and compassion.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, gifts might be made to Notre Dame Hospice or St. Mary's Health Care … both of Worcester.

Calling hours will be at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester, Massachusetts from 4:30 to 7:30 pm on Friday March 17th. I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Your mom and dad were good friends of ours all the tears your family lived in Uxbridge.
