Jean Eskind Obituary

Jean Eskind

Nashville, TN

Jean Lorraine Lieber Eskind died October 3, 2016, She is survived by her daughter, Linda Eskind Rebrovick (Arthur) and son, Bradley Ernest Eskind (Marcy) of Nashville; and four grandchildren, Leigh and Tripp Rebrovick, Lindsey and Andrew Eskind, sister-in-law, Barbara Lieber, and nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Allen Stanley Eskind, her parents, Jeanette Mautner Lieber Marx and Laurence Lieber, and her brother, Frank Lieber, of Highland Park, IL.

Jean was born in Chicago, IL. She attended the University of Illinois and Hunter College in New York. After marrying Allen, Jean moved to Nashville, where she joined the Radio and TV Council of Middle Tennessee, eventually becoming its President and changing the name of the organization to the Communications Arts Council. She was the Chairwoman of the Advisory Committee to Channel 8 and WDCN (now NPT). Jean was the ultimate Public Relations and Sales professional. She worked in hotel sales and was the President of the Nashville Hotel Sales Marketing Association. She served on the Nashville Symphony Guild Board, as the Secretary of the March of Dimes, Board of Retirement Learning at Vanderbilt, and as both the President and Publicity Chair of the Nashville Opera Guild. She was a longtime volunteer at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. For these and many other endeavors, in 2003, Jean and Allen received the Sage Award from the Council on Aging of Greater Nashville for their commitment to improving quality of life in the community.

Jean also loved golf. She was an avid player and proudly made four hole-in-ones and was a five-time club champion. She served as President of the Nashville Golf Association, Hillwood Golf Association, and the Woodmont County Club and Hillwood County Club 18 Hole Groups. She enjoyed photography and walking. Known as "Jean Bean" to her family, she will be missed dearly. Witty, determined, elegant, and fashionable, she was often smiling and made everyone around her laugh. Wherever she was, she stood out, whether wearing her sunglasses indoors or drinking bourbon from a wine glass. She was proud of and always there for her family.

In respect to Jean's request, the family will have a private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Frist Center, Opera Guild, or the charitable organization of your choice.

Love Jean!!! Her competitive spirit, her whit, her kindness, her smile, her friendship. I will miss her dearly. I met Jean through golf but loved learning how active she was in other aspects of service to others. She and Allen have remarkable kids! I was so saddened to hear of her passing and my thoughts, prayers and blessings are with the family.

Much love to you all.
