Mark Jones Obituary

Mark S. Jones
Painted Post - Mark S. Jones, age 62, of Painted Post, NY passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
Mark was born November 8, 1958 in Hornell, NY to Evan and Theresa (Miller) Jones. He married Kathy J. Walter on June 12th, 1982 at Christ Episcopal Church in Corning, NY.
Mark graduated from Corning East High School in 1976, where he was involved in chorus and several musicals. He was a champion diver and swimmer, and dedicated to perfecting the "butterfly."
At a young age, he played baseball, coached by his grandfather Tom Miller, and he continued to play throughout college. His grandfather dreamed he would one day play for the New York Yankees.
Mark was a proud Eagle Scout and a member of Troup 61, which was founded by his father. He attended several National Scout Jamboree events. He was an avid gardener, golfer, bowler and snow skier, and he looked forward to hunting every year. He was a lifelong NY Giants and NY Yankees fan. Mark worked with his father managing Corning Auto Supply on Market Street in Corning, which later merged with Jones Truck and Bus Parts. He retired from Corning Inc. after 20 years of service. He loved rock and roll, and he enjoyed watching the Young and the Restless daily. He had a love for Keuka Lake, gathering with family and friends, boating, skiing, and campfires.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Jessica Evans of Painted Post; son, Randy (Lacy) Jones of Nelson, PA; sister, Sherry (Sherm) Scott of Caton; grandchildren: Katie Jones, Kaitlan Chase, Kristen Gargano, and Mason & Wyatt Evans; brother-in-law, Louis (Debbie) Walter of Painted Post; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Bob) Farr of Caton and Penny Kio of Corning; special aunt and uncle Marty and Wayne Miller of Greenville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Evan and Theresa Jones; in-laws, Jerry and Joyce Walter; and his infant daughter, Stephanie Theresa Jones.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 15th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 PM with Father John DeSocio officiating.

Mark will be missed by us...we would usually see him and his family once a year when we returned to Corning in the summertime. Mark was one my husband's first friends and they maintained that friendship over time and distance. Our hearts go out to Kathy, his wife, and his children and to Sherry, his sister.
