William T. "Bill" Williams, 84, of Wilson died Monday, Feb. 5, 2024.

A funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church and will be followed by a time of visiting and sharing. Interment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sara Jones Williams; his daughter, Beth W. McGhee (Matt) of Sims; his son, David Williams of California; his grandchildren, Caleb and Catherine Cranford, and Alyssa McGhee; and his sisters, Llewellyn Jones (Steve) of Durham and Bonnie Stophel (Paul) of Eden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mattie Davenport Williams of Wilson County; and his brothers, Carl and Norman Williams.

Bill graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson in 1957. He remained in Wilson to attend Atlantic Christian College until he transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his undergraduate studies. He went on to graduate from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy in 1963 and served as a pharmacist his entire career.

In addition to his professional work, Bill was active in many, many phases of leadership in his church and beyond. He joined the National Guard after graduation and served as a medic; he was active on the Volunteers in Missions team with First United Methodist Church in Wilson for numerous years; he was passionate about volunteering for the Down East Radio Reading Service for the Blind in Rocky Mount; he recorded CDs of the weekly church service and delivered them to shut-in members of First United Methodist Church; and he was a member of the Men's Prayer Breakfast Group at First United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, where he held the job of "the head egg cooker."
