Michael Andrepont Obituary

Michael Jude Andrepont

LAFAYETTE - A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 1:00 PM in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel for Michael Jude Andrepont, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, February 1, 2013 due to very unexpected natural causes. He was born November 6, 1966, in New Iberia, Louisiana. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Donna; children McKenna (19), Meghan (14), and Luke Michael (9); loving parents, Milton (Andy) Andrepont, Jr. and Jane Thibodeaux Andrepont; loving sister, Nicole Andrepont; numerous other loving relatives and a host of friends.

Family, friends, his pet Newfoundland Bridger (who the children call Princess in snarky understanding of their Dad's affinity for the family pet), and books (and more books), and travel and adventure were important in Michael's life. He was blessed with a keen bright mind and an unbounded sense of curiosity. His interests ranged from history, technology, music and current world events, to a good game of golf with a friend, though his enthusiasm for the game often exceeded his skill. He never played golf as much as he would've liked, and said he would save it for later, because given a choice between golf or watching his son on the soccer field - he chose the latter, and gravitated to friends who felt the same. Michael was ardently devoted to his family and his love for them was evident for all to see. He adored his three kids and always could be found at all their activities. Together, Michael, Donna, McKenna, Meghan and Luke saw the world. They shared adventures spanning 38 states and many countries, from exploring Pompeii and the Piccolomini library at the Duomo de Siena (his favorite place on earth) to watching the sunset in Big Sur, playing in the Red Rocks of Utah, and hiking Angel Glacier near Jasper, Canada which the kids likened to Narnia. Michael knew what was important in life. He was a man of character who thought it important to do the right thing, even if no one else was watching, and he passed along those ethics to his children.

Michael's desire to become a lawyer was first kindled upon joining the Debate Squad at New Iberia Senior High School (class of 1984). He continued debating at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he met Donna. After completing his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at USL in 1989, he went on to receive his Juris Doctorate at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University. Michael was a gifted oral advocate and an exceptional writer. His professional career included time in private practice before he moved on to serve many years as General Counsel of Frank's Casing Crew & Rental Tools, Inc. In recent years, Michael, Donna, and the kids had relocated to Houston, where Michael's professional career continued to excel as Legal Counsel/ Contracts Director - Sales & Marketing at Wison Offshore, an enterprising company with a talented team in both East and West that he was proud to represent. Michael practiced law to the highest standard, and he was an outstanding role model for young lawyers. He was universally respected by his colleagues and his adversaries alike. He made the work day a little brighter for those fortunate enough to work with him and for him.

He was the quintessential "hale fellow well met," with a mischievous grin, infectious laugh, and a personality that was always warm and cheerful. He was the kind of son who made his parents proud, a husband that made his wife fall in love with him all over again every day, and a Dad who left his children with no doubt they were his priority. He shared with them his faith in God and the gift and assurance of everlasting life. His life was blessed with many wonderful friendships and much laughter.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 12:00PM to 1:00PM at Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE Location.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the children's education in their name can be made through St. Martin Bank & Trust.

"The story is one that you and I will construct together in your memory. If the story means anything to you at all, then when you remember it afterward, think of it, not as something I created, but rather as something that we made together." Orson Scott Card, Ender's Game

I was on the debate squad with Mike and have fond memories of those days. I lost contact after college. Would of liked to get in a game of golf with him. I'm truly sorry for you loss.

I am stunned to hear this news. I was Mike's speech and debate coach at New Iberia Senior High. He was dedicated and a joy to have on the team. I had lost touch with him over the years and I am so saddened today. He was a light in the world! My sympathies to his family in this difficult time.
