Earl T. George, Jr. was born on June 9, 1930, in New Orleans, (Metairie) to Earl George, Sr. and Victoria Gonzales George. With several decades of a fulfilling life behind him, Earl passed away on June 30, 2024. Earl graduated from St. Francis Xavier parochial school and Metairie High School. He also attended Tulane and graduated from the University of Colorado (Boulder) with a BS degree in civil engineering and Yale University Bureau of Highway Traffic. He served as a traffic engineer for the city of New Orleans and then a highway design engineer for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development in Baton Rouge, advancing to Traffic and Consultant Design Engineer until his retirement in 1987. He was a registered civil engineer and land surveyor in the state of Louisiana. From 1982-2012, Earl co-owned the Lamp Post, Inc. with longtime dear friend Victor Chairmonte. Vic and Earl shared a lifetime of common interests including a decade's long project in which they moved and renovated an old home where they lived for nearly 40 years. They traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, sharing their stories of railway travel, dining, and stage productions with all they encountered. They were loyal supporters of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, the Manship Theatre, St. Vincent de Paul and Theatre Baton Rouge. Earl was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Earl is survived by his cousin, Lavelle Barker of Las Vegas, and nieces by choice, Myra Delaune and Kelly Sword-Hurtado. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles William George, and Victor Chairmonte. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 6, from 10 am until mass at 11 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, conducted by Father Cleo Milano. A private burial will be held at the family tomb at the St. Louis Cemetery number 3 in New Orleans. Pallbearers are Myra Delaune, Kelly Hurtado, Enrique Hurtado, Ed Picard, Oscar Lejeune, and Terry Tuminello. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul.
