Jewel Wilson Obituary

Jewel LaCour Wilson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was 68 years old, born November 12, 1946, in Alexandria, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Wilson, Sr., and her parents, J.C. and Mable LaCour. She lived every day of her life by her favorite saying - "Family is everything". She is survived by their four children, Michael Wilson Jr., of Baton Rouge, Greg Wilson and his wife Suzanne Mouch of Brusly, Elaina Wilson Ayres and her husband Mark of Pineville and Elizabeth Wilson Walker of Pineville. She was "Noonie" to her six grandchildren: Clayton, Helen, Scott, Cameron, Sarah, and Hannah. After Mike, they were the love of Jewel's life and according to them, she cooked the world's best pancakes and jambalaya. She is also survived by her siblings, Arlene Vanderford (Bill), Richard LaCour (Regina), Tim LaCour (Brenda), Sandra Watson (John), Paul LaCour (Lori), and Tammy Roshto (Buddy). Jewel was a native of Pineville and grew up on Camp Beauregard. She was a 1964 graduate of Providence Central High School in Alexandria. Jewel and Mike lived in Brusly for 30 years and raised their family there. Jewel was active in many organizations including St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Brusly Baseball (softball coach), Brusly High Panther Paws Athletic Organization, and the Capitol City Umpires Association (softball umpire). She also worked for the West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office Juvenile Division. Jewel was an avid seamstress, accomplished artist and loved to cook. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and subscribed to their motto, "Wait 'til next year". She and Mike shared a love of travel and spent over 10 years as full-time travelers in their R.V. exploring the United States and Canada, making friends everywhere they visited. They returned to Central Louisiana in 2004 where Jewel was active in Emmanuel Baptist Church, especially their Pilgrimage to Bethlehem Program. She also volunteered for Cabrini Hospice and Habitat for Humanity. Friends may call on the family Monday, December 15, 2014, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, December 16, 2014, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Alexandria. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Alexandria, with Dr. Lee Weems, Rev. Richard LaCour and Dr. Chris Thacker officiating. In this journey, our family has had so much support from family and friends. The family would personally like to thank Christus Cabrini Hospice and Palliative Care and my mom's nurse Shannon Bryant. In lieu of flowers Jewel requested that donations be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Pilgrimage to Bethlehem, Make-A-Wish International or to the charity of their choice.

When I was wandering, you all took me in. Mrs. Jewel expected me at the dinner table that first year of teaching. She and Mr. Mike did indeed teach me that family is everything. Thank you for sharing them. Praying that you will be consoled by your momma's legacy of love.

So sad for the loss of this wonderful lady from my childhood. She was the sweetest lady and I'm glad to have known her for a time on this earth. This is not goodbye but instead it's so long for now, dear Jewel. You are now in the arms of our Father in Heaven and reunited with the loved ones that have gone before. Just know that you were loved and admired and we will meet again one day. You have made an impact on me and so many others on this earth. Love and comfort to your family.

My cousin Jewell was fearless. I do not mean she wasn't afraid of the " boogeyman", I mean she had no fear of life. She jumped into it and never shied away from a challenge. I will forever miss her. I will see you again someday,Jewell, have no fear. Tootie

My cousin Jewell was fearless. I don't mean she wasn't scared of the "boogey man". I mean she had no fear of life. She jumped into it and never shied away from a challenge. I will forever miss her. Just this morning I read an article I know she would have liked.I reached for my phone to text her but realized it wouldn't happen. Jewell, I will see you again someday, have no fear. Love Tootie

I am blessed to have had Jewel and Mike as my friends since I was a teen in the 60's. Jewel was always upbeat and smiling, and a joy to be around.
It's comforting to know that she and Mike, and all her loved ones who have gone on before, are now reunited for eternity. Heaven has gained another wonderful angel.

I am rejoicing today for such a Beautiful life & lady, Mrs. Jewel Wilson. What a wonderful Lady, Mrs. Wilson opened their door and home to me as a young boy from Tombstone. She would call my mother and ask if i could hang out in back Brusly with Mike & Greg, i never wanted for anything when i was with the Wilsons and how she could Cook and make the best Dessert in the World. If there was a function at Brusly Middle or High they were their. I felt like one of Jewel & Mike kids , they treated me with so much love. I was so Blessed to have them and so many wonderful people from Brusly in my life, and the Wilson Family i will never forget. I know you are Happy again to see Big Mike! Sleep on and take your Rest. Much Love !
