The Tates were members of our community. During our youth, we could not tell John from Johnny, so we called then "Twin"! My sisters Gwen and Theresa and brother, JB join me in sending condolences. John was always a gentleman! I last saw him as he and Johnny were performing at a Friday Nite Lights event in downtown Baton Rouge. It was instant recognition, though years had passed. What a great guy! He will be missed!

I am very sad to hear about the passing of Mr. John Tate, Jr. He has been truly an inspiration to me in my life. His singing and his jovial spirit have always been a joy to experience. His wisdom on life alone has given me a touch of reality which I was very glad to have received. John, you are very missed already. Some people make the world special just by being in it and Mr. John was definitely one of those people.
Mr. John was my daughters bus driver for the past 3 years. I was so nervous for her to ride the bus but the minute I met John I knew my daughter was in good hands and I’m so thankful for that peace of mind.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He will truly be missed!

Our deepest condolences to Mr. John’s family. He was very special to me and my two children (they rode bus 647 in Central). We were so sad to learn of his passing.

Standing in the fellowship hall prior to worship, a mutual friend pointed at the ankle (an inside joke), John looked at Johnny, Kelvin (who filled me in on the inside joke), and then looked at me and said, “Well Pastor.” And, we all started to laugh!
