Kevin Gaudet Obituary

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away." Kevin lost his courageous battle with cancer Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 47, a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Prairieville. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 22, beginning at 9 a.m. until his memorial service at 11 a.m. at Broussard Grove Baptist Church, conducted by a longtime friend, the Rev. Charles Marceaux. Kevin is survived by his wife, Shelly Jacobs Gaudet; daughter, Brooke; and sons, Drake and Garret. He is also survived by his father, Louis; sister, Susan; brothers, Michael and John; John's partner, Mike; in-laws whom he loved, Gail and Gerald Jacobs; and Shelly's brothers, David and JJ and their families. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Cecile Gaudet. Kevin graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1981 and was also a graduate of the Baton Rouge School of Computers and ITI. He was very proud of his work at Diebold where he managed customer service for all of Louisiana. He coached girls softball, led the all-star team to a regional title and also coached in the Little League for more than eight years. His deep love for the game and the kids inspired him to become an umpire and member of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association of Umpires. He had the privilege of umpiring several high school games before becoming ill. Kevin had a passion for fishing and spent what free time he had "tearing up the red fish and trout" in Cocodrie. He was also an avid LSU fan. He was a loving husband and father who will be missed by many. A special thank you to Dr. Gerald Miletello and his caring staff, to Hospice of Baton Rouge, especially our special nurse, Susie, and all of our family and friends. John 3:16 "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help with medical expenses to the Gaudet Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 2043, Prairieville, LA 70769-2043. We have had so many great times with you and your family. All the LSU and Super Bowls games at your house were so much fun! You were such a good man...a real man's man but yet a tender heart. You will be missed!

Kevin, you were my little brother. The little brother I spent 14 hours a day with at Astroworld. The little brother who couldn’t get enough of the Space Center. And, the little brother who cheered with me for the St. Louis Cardinals. You turned out to be one hell of a big man. I will always be proud of you, love you and miss you.

Mr. Kevin,
I'll never forget all the things you taught me in softball and how great of a person and coach you were. You always had a smile on your face and words of encouragement to give. I thank you and love you for that. I promise to you that I will be a great friend and sister to Brooke. She, among the rest of the family, misses you dearly. But we all know you no longer feel pain and are in a better place.

Rest in peace.

Daddy,
Not a day goes by that I don't think about you, and miss you. It still doesn't feel real to me that you're gone. I feel like if I drove home right now, you'd be there, mad at me for driving so late. Everything I see, every song I hear, everything I do, reminds me of you. Can't wait until the day I get to see you again.

Spring baseball has always been something to look forward to each year because we knew that Kevin and Shelly would be out at the park with Garret. Everyone always wanted Kevin behind the plate umpiring their kid's game. He was a fair ump and the kids respected him. Kevin was a great leader on and off the baseball field, and he will be greatly missed! Our thoughts and prayers are with Shelly, Brooke, Drake, and Garret during this time.

Shelly,
You and your children have been in my thoughts daily. I cannot begin to imagine the deep sorrow and loss you all are feeling. Find comfort in knowing that Kevin's suffering has ended, and that you all are protected by a very special guardian angel. Keep your faith strong and remember that God always has a plan. Love and miss you!

Shelly, Brooke, Drake and Garret I am so sorry for your loss. Kevin was my boss but he was much much more, he was a great friend. I will always remember working together with him in Houma, going to ya'll house and working together in Baton Rouge for Johnson Controls. I will also remember going to LSU baseball games and fishing with Kevin and Jake at the camp. He was a great, great man; a great, great person and a great great friend, I will truly miss him but will never forget him.

Uncle Louis, Michael, John, Susan and to Kevin's immediate family, especially you Brooke. My heart goes out to you all. I was never close in my relationship to Kevin and being the same age, it strikes me to never take life for granted. So, I will hold dear to my heart his courageous fight and the memory of Kevin through you all.

Shelly,

I can't begin to express my sorrow to you and your kids for your loss. Mama had been giving me weekly updates on Kevin's condition until the end. I know that no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you and your family are very close in thoughts and prayers. I've been knowing most of my life, and I know that you're a strong person. May you gain comfort as well as strength from your wonderful memories together. Take care & God Bless.

Love,
CoCo

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I Graduated with Kevin but haven't seen him for many years. I don't know how. Looks like he spent his life enjoying the same things I do (Softball, fishing in Cocodrie and LSU). God Bless.
