Larry Hood Obituary

Larry Douglas Hood, a native of Hammond and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away in the early morning hours of January 15th at the Baton Rouge General Hospice Unit. He was surrounded by family and friends as he concluded his battle with cancer. Pastor Hood was currently serving as the founding pastor of the Logos and Life Bible Church of Plaquemine, LA. He taught in the public school system for more than seventeen years. He was a nationally known seminar leader and Bible study instructor. Larry Hood leaves to cherish his memories his loving and faithful wife of forty years, Janice M. Hood; four children, Lori D. Hood, Nicole M. Hood, Melinda Scott-Bell, and D'Marco Maggio, all of Baton Rouge; three sisters, Sharon Isidore McKendall of Fresno, TX, Dianna Burrell Lee and Angela Isidore of New Orleans, LA; and two brothers, Kevin Isidore of New Orleans, LA, and Kenneth Isidore of Fresno, TX, and a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at New Hope Baptist Church, 5856 Greenwell Springs Road, on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 11am conducted by Dr. Ricky E. Carter. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, from 9 am to 10:45 am. Interment: Mt Zion Cemetery of Montpelier. Services entrusted to Hall Davis & Sons Funeral Services.

Sis. Hood,we pray for your strength. May the memories you and the children share sustain you. Please know that wherever he went, Pastor Hood left a positive and lasting impact on the lives he touched. He was one of the best teachers at Mt. Canaan BC, in Shreveport. He taught our Sunday school class. We will miss him.

Today I heard of the passing of Pastor Larry Hood whom I had the pleasure of knowing while serving as a teacher at Kenilworth Middle School several years ago. I found him to be very knowledgeable in his profession as an English teacher and also well-grounded in God's Word. He was one of the best teachers to work for the Fourth District Congress of Christian Education. He was also a blessing to Pastor John Montgomery and the Greater King David Church family when Pastor Montgomery was ill a few years ago. I extend my deepest heartfelt sympathy to his wife and family. May all the work he has done speak for him. Also, may he rest in peace from his labor here on earth until we all meet again on that beautiful shore! God bless you all!

Marie, I was so sorry to hear of the death of Larry. You may remember, he and I worked together at Kenilworth for a number of years. I had great respect for his knowledge and intellect and truly valued his friendship. He was a great teacher of philosophy and religion and on many occasions helped me to see things clearly. I thank God for allowing him to be a part of my life. I shall remember him fondly and keep you and the girls in my prayers.

My sincere condolences and prayers are with you at this time. Larry was a good friend to all of us at Southeastern LA University in the late sixties, early seventies. We had a great time singing in the gospel choir with Larry playing the piano at Wesley Methodist Student Union. He was a great teacher of God's word. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
