Marty Emick Obituary

Marty James Emick, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the age of 64. Marty was born on October 19, 1959, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Effie Utsler and Clyde Emick. He was also fortunate to have Frank Utsler as a stepfather. After attending Louisiana State University, and working hard in the IT industry, Marty embarked on a successful career. Along with Eric Scott, they became proud owners of Semtech Support. At Semtech, Marty touched the lives of so many individuals both professional and personal and would always treat others with kindness and humor. On top of his professional interests, Marty was a family man at heart. Over the years, Marty has forged strong lifelong friendships with Eric Scott and Greg and Lori Soileau. Along with these lifelong relationships, Marty so effortlessly formed friendships with people in every avenue of his life. From those in his neighborhood and at his office, to those he met out and about, Marty never met a stranger. Marty was a man who never enjoyed sitting still. He always had something to do, something to fix, or someone to help. Marty loved nature and the great outdoors; a place where he felt closest to God. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was never lacking in stories about his experiences. He was a proud member of the Longwood Plantation Hunting Club where he hunted for many years of his life. Closer to home, Marty loved putting out Purple Martin nests and watching them fly in during the evenings. He loved tending to his garden, and would always look forward to walking his dogs, Sadie and Lucy, around the neighborhood. Marty was a strong, supportive, and hands on father of Brett and Tyler. No matter how busy, he would always make time to help them with their studies, play sports, and guide them on their path to manhood. With his sons, Marty now watches over his loving wife of 26 years, Thelma Emick. Their bond together, so strong in life, will only strengthen until they met again in the presence of Jesus Christ. He also watches over his loving siblings; Kathy Foster, Sharon Buchak, and Gary Emick. He now joins his brother, Patrick Emick, in heaven. What brings his family so much joy is knowing that during his illness, Marty came to know and believe in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He knew that Christ would be with him through his struggles and would be with him in his final moments. In honoring the memory of Marty James Emick, visitation services will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Resthaven Funeral Home from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM, with burial to follow. The family would like to invite everyone to a celebration of life, following the burial, at the home of Thelma Emick.
