Charlie Luke Obituary

Charlie Luke

Augusta, GA – On October 21, 2023, Mr. Charlie Luke, entered into the joy of His Lord after fighting a courageous battle against many health challenges.

Mr. Luke was born in Augusta, GA and raised on his family's farm where he spent many years playing with his three sisters and neighborhood friends. He graduated from Richmond Academy and Augusta College and was employed at Yancey Brothers for over 30 years. He was a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and later Crossroads Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and in other compacities as requested.

To his family and friends, Mr. Luke was one of the greatest examples of a suffering yet successful servant of His Lord. To his longtime love, Sherril, who devoted many years of her life providing love, daily care, and unfailing devotion he was most grateful.

Mr. Luke was an avid dog lover and Georgia Football fan and spent many hours loving his furry friends and watching his Bulldogs. Upon retirement and despite declining health he continued to encourage all who knew and met him.

To the staff and patients of the dialysis center he remained a source of strength and an uplifting Christian example week after week. Our sincere appreciation is extended to Dr. Chris Apostle and Dr. Michael Whitlow for their compassionate and excellent care for our loved one.

He is survived by his life partner: Sherril Collier; sisters: Tillie McDaniel (Jimmy), Billie Jackson (Bill), and Alana Morgan (Pearre); niece: Katelyn Morgan; nephew: Benjamin McDaniel (Jennifer); numerous great nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-Christ: Jack Flanders and Travis Kelly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mattie Luke, brother, Ronald Russell Luke, and nieces, Julie McDaniel Powell and Madison McDaniel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 3880 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, GA 30909 or to the Kidney Foundation.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. Interment will follow in Pierce Memorial Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ben McDaniel, Caleb McDaniel, Logan McDaniel, Joey Harris, Jack Flanders, and Leroy Powell.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484. Please sign the guestbook at www.thomaspoteet.com
