It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Markey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Richard peacefully departed this world on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at the age of 69 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. He was born on Thursday, February 24th, 1955, in Washington D.C., and lived a life full of love, laughter, and joy.
Richard was the cherished husband of Shirley Markey and the proud father of three sons, Robert Markey, Richard Markey, and Michael Markey. He found immense joy and pride in his grandchildren, Annalise, Aurora, Michael Jr., and Richard III. Richard is also survived by his siblings, William, Wayne, and Ronald Markey, and his sister, Linda Brown. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Markey, mother, Helen Markey, daughter, Michelle Markey, and brother, Charles Markey.
Richard grew up in a large and loving family, and graduated from Severna Park High School in 1973. He spent over 30 years as a skilled surveyor for Anne Arundel County, a profession he passionately dedicated himself to until his retirement, leaving a mark on those he worked with through his precision and commitment.
In his free time, Richard enjoyed crabbing, growing grapes, and making wine. He also enjoyed gardening and grew delicious tomatoes. He had such an abundance, he would share them with his neighbors who looked forward to them every year. He was fondly known for his great sense of humor and being a wonderful person who brought smiles to the faces of everyone he met. His passions and personality touched many lives, leaving behind warm memories treasured by friends and family alike.
An evening visitation will be held in Richard's honor at Stallings Funeral Home,
Pasadena, Maryland, on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral services will take place at the same venue on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025, at 10:00 am. All who knew him are welcome to come and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man who will be dearly missed.
As we say goodbye to Richard, let us also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind. His love and laughter will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
