Stephen Walter Obituary

Stephen Ray Walter, 72, left this earth on October 21, 2024, with his family and friends by his side at UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Steve was born August 8, 1952 in Churchville, Maryland to Raymond and Betty Walter. He became a big brother in 1962 when his younger brother Ed was born. He has fond memories of growing up in Churchville close to all his cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Steve graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1970. He attended Harford Community College and played baseball. After college, he began his career in the auto parts sales industry working at Alban, Hickory and holding various positions over the 40 years he spent at Beltway International. Steve was a great athlete and enjoyed playing baseball, football, racquetball and bowling. After college, he enjoyed playing softball and met his wife, Karen at a softball tournament in 1982. They were married May 28, 1983, settling in Glen Burnie to begin their family. They welcomed Brianna Kay in 1985, Aaron Jason in 1988 and Gregory Allen in 1991. As a family they served at Faith Baptist Church, enjoyed summer vacations in the Outer Banks, playing church softball and attending Maryland Terp games. Steve went to the Final Four games for 22 years, bringing his whole family to see the Terps win it all in 2002. In addition to cheering for the Terps, Steve was always in the standing cheering his children on at all their sports games. Steve enjoyed camping trips with family and friends and cruising with Karen to Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. In his retirement years, Steven and Karen enjoyed taking care of his 5 grandchildren, watching them dance and play sports, and getting involved at Lighthouse Church. Steve was a loyal protector of his family; he is admired for his steadfast strength, sarcastic humor and true selflessness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, love for his family, love for his friends and love for his Savior and Lord. Steve is survived by his Mom, Betty Walter of Harford County; his wife Karen; their children, Bri (Donny), Jason, Greg (Kelly); their grandchildren, Ellyana (13), Caliegh Raye (11), Winter (10), Junior (9) and Zane (5), and his brother, Ed (Heather) Walter and their children, Caleb (Creason), Seth and Juliana. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Walter. Friends and family may visit on Friday, October 25th from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122. A service will be held Saturday, October 26th at 10:00 am at Faith Baptist Church, 7378 E Furnace Branch Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21060. Immediately after service, the family invites you to a reception at 11:30am at Lighthouse Church, 6691 Baymeadow Dr #200, Glen Burnie, MD 21060. Interment is private.
