Jackie Griffin Obituary
On March 20, 2024, God called home an angel when Jackie Wren Hill Griffin lost her battle with Alzheimer's and Lewy Body diseases.
Jackie was born on July 27, 1946, in Greenville, North Carolina, to John C. and Pearl C. Hill. She moved to St. Simons Island in 1977 and retired from Glynn County Schools as a media secretary at St. Simons Elementary School. She prided herself in memorizing each student's name and library number.
As an 18-year-old freshman at Old Dominion College in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1964, she met a newly commissioned young Naval officer. They married in August 1966. Their marriage endured 57 years until her passing.
In addition to her parents, Jackie was predeceased by her only child, John T Griffin, III, and brother Douglas C. Hill. She is survived by her loving husband, John T. Griffin Jr., and grandchildren John Griffin IV, "Jack," of Alpharetta, Georgia; Gunner Griffin of Freeport, Florida; and Caroline Griffin of Greensboro, Georgia. Jackie is survived locally by her sister-in-law Elaine Goodwin, and special friend Mary Murray, both of St. Simons Island. Heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers and staff at the Arbor Program at Wesley Church at Frederica, and Hospice of the Golden Isles for the love and kindness she enjoyed before her death.
A memorial service celebrating her precious life will be held later.
Remembrances can be made to any local organization serving the needs of children, who were her main love.
