John Dowdy Obituary
John "Johnny" Dowdy, 34, of Bigelow, passed away on May 27, 2023, after a battle with mental illness.
He is survived by his children, James and Elizabeth Dowdy, both of Fairbanks, Alaska, and his mother and step-father, Krystie and Bryan Huwe of Bigelow. He is also survived by his siblings, Justin Dowdy of Mayflower, Jake Dowdy (and wife Sarah) of Alexander, Julie Freeman (and husband Tommy) of Bigelow and Joseph Huwe of Bigelow, as well as Nana, Ruthamae Karr of Conway. Nieces and nephews include Grace Dowdy, TJ Freeman, Jordan and Jazmin Garcia, Theron Knight and Roman Dowdy.
His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He talked and bragged about James with his wrestling and Elizabeth with her ballet.
Johnny was a dynamic and talented musician who was passionate about playing the guitar, he loved church, and supporting his Falcon family by yelling at the referees as much as possible.
Anyone who knew him knew that he was a big personality full of love and life, yet he had many internal battles. He was a bright star in this often difficult world. He will be missed by so many friends and family members.

John and I met in 2017, when we worked for AR DOC as Probation/Parole Officers. We attended ALETA (law enforcement academy) together and became fast friends. John's sense of humor was infectious. We were both soldiers, and I especially enjoyed his stories about his time in Korea.
After ALETA, we'd go to lunch in NLR and my wife and I met with his wife one evening (his kids were amazing). We also went out for some karaoke in Conway, and John was very musical. I went back active duty at towards the end of 2017 and last spoke with him in 2021 (he had moved back to AK).
I was deeply saddened to hear about his passing. Even though we only hung out 5-6 months, I considered him a friend and an exceptional dad (evidenced by his many stories).

John had an incredibly large heart. His giving spirit to the Falcon basketball boys was contagious. His personality energized the room. He had so much more to give. I will miss him. His suffering is over now. Enjoy your peace John. We will meet again some day. Krystie and family, my heart is broken for our loss of a beautiful young man.
