Daniel Lloyd Lucas, 75, passed away in Sacramento California on February 14, 2021 with his younger brother Ron Lucas by his side. Dan was born in San Jose to the late Joseph Lucas and Hazel Lucas, and he graduated from North Salinas High School in 1962 where he played football and wrestled. He continued his football career at Hartnell College and San Francisco State University. Although his life took him to Wyoming, Nebraska, and Arizona, he was never far from the embrace of his lovable Portuguese extended family in central California. He loved and was loved by his cousins, aunts, and uncles who always created opportunities for reunions and other family fun. Dan is survived by his brother Ron (Teri) Lucas, his daughter Sarah (John) Bowes, and his son Zac (Brandi) Lucas, as well as his grandchildren, Keith Lucas, Callie Bowes, and Reese Bowes. The family will be holding a private memorial service to honor his life. To honor the memory of Dan Lucas, please consider sending a donation to the Hartnell College foundation athletics fund - 411 Central Avenue, Salinas, CA 93901. Hartnell College Foundation is a public benefit Charity OR Alzheimer's Association: https://www.alz.org/.

Danny was the best. The parties playing football at sf state were great and we played rugby for 4 years after football and Danny was the life of the party. God bless to truly one of a kind.

Sad to hear of the passing of Dan. I met Dan in 1977 working iron Nebraska, we worked together on a raising gang on two coal burners unit one and later unit two. Later in 81 Dan was my foreman in Evanston Wyoming. Didn’t see Dan for 30 years then met in Yuma AZ. and it was great to see him. I think I may have been twenty years old when I meet Dan and though we didn’t stay in constant contact he was all ways a good friend. Rest in piece Daniel. God bless the family

Rest In Peace Danny! Our condolences to all the Lucas family! Our hearts are broken, Danny was dearly loved as well as Ronnie by our family! Our father Vern Baxter was their wrestling Coach ! He lit up every time he spoke of either of them, growing up they often showed up at our back door ( the front door was for friends the back door was for family)! I remember going to their house with my dad and he would sit and visit with Joe and Hazel to catch up with what the boys were up to. A year before my dad passed , Danny sent my dad a beautiful letter that touched my dads heart! He was so proud of both of them! I’m guessing Danny and my dad are in heaven going over wrestling moves and laughing about the NSHS days! Tami Baxter Pybas

I was sad when I heard "via the grapevine" today that you had passed. It has been a long, long time since we watched our parents laugh and tease, especially my father and your father. Your mother used to walk and visit my mother at least once a week and we would all have such a fun laugh every time. I remember you with my "child eyes" and of course, to me, you are still that "little boy". I know you had a struggle here on earth, but now, you are at peace with our Lord. Prayers of love and support to your brother, Ronnie, and all your family.

My husband, Lloyd, and I have known Danny and the Lucas family all our lives. His parents, Joe and Hazel, were our best friends--and maybe even cousins. He was greatly missed when he left Salinas. Danny and his brother, Ronnie, were the cutest little boys in our neighborhood. I enjoyed, so much, watching Danny and his brother wrestle and play football at North Salinas High School when I worked there. Our condolences to Danny's family, Sarah and Zack, his brother Ronnie and his wife, Keri, and all their family.

Rest in peace, my friend. Danny ... I know you and I have not had any contact since 1963 when you left North High. I must say you made quite an impression on me. Somewhere around 1960, I was contemplating joining the wrestling team... the problem was you and I shared the same weight and I would have to compete with you for a place on the team. You had already proven yourself as a top-notch CCAL wrestler... so consequently, I figured if I couldn't be number one why even try. (LOL) Danny, it won't be long till we meet again... A hui hou kakou
