Timothy Kirkpatrick Obituary

Dr. Timothy Lee Kirkpatrick

The brightest comet has burned out. Dr. Timothy Lee Kirkpatrick's fire ceased burning on Thanksgiving evening. He was the best at everything he loved: sailing, skiing, racquetball, humor, practical jokes, dentistry, friendship, and his role as a son, brother, father and husband. Dr. Kirkpatrick loved his patients; they and his staff adored him. He was a leader. Because of Tim's integrity, determanation and loving nature, his wife found it an honor to be his soulmate and helpmate as he faced Parkinson's Disease with dignity.

Dr. Kirkpatrick practiced dentistry in Reston, VA for nearly 40 years before moving to Kailua, HI, for 8 years. He and his wife recently moved to Greer, SC, closer to family and friends during the late stages of PD.

Tim was reared in Salinas, CA. He graduated from North Salinas High in 1963. "Tornado Tim" was a football and track star. A graduate of San Jose State U in 1968, Tim finished Dentistry School at the top of his class at Georgetown U in 1973. Tim is survived by his wife of 22 years, Nancy; sons Shaen Kirkpatrick of Pine Hurst, NC; Davis Diley of Delray Beach FL; Kai Kirkpatrick of Kailua, HI; Brett Garcia of Bakersfield, CA, brother Melvin Kirkpatrick of Yerington, NV; and grandson Cole of Chapel Hill, NC. Tim was predeceased by his parents, Douglas Melvin Kirkpatrick and Georgiana Packard Kirkpatrick of Salinas, CA.

Tim was baptized in Lanikai Beach, Kailua, HI in May, 2012. As Timothy Lee Kirkpatrick met his Maker he surley heard, "Job well done. Welcome home Son."

I first went to Tim at the age of 17, right after he opened his practice near Lake Anne in Reston. I feel like I grew up with him, as I continued to see him, along with the rest of my family, until he retired to Hawaii. He was simply the best. His skills were top notch, and he had an awesome sense of humor that was much appreciated. While we are saddened to hear of his passing, we want the family to know what a positive impact he had on us. Rest in peace.

Something prompted me to Google Dr. Kirkpatrick today. My condolences to Nancy & family. I am sorry to have missed his Celebration of Life.

I started seeing Tim as a patient in 1982 at age 19 after a referral and continued to see him even after moving to Maryland in 1997 and up until his retirement.

He and his staff (e.g. Midge) always made me feel welcome like family or an old college buddy.

He was always cheerful and had a good sense of humor.

He also did excellent work. The first thing my new (Maryland) dentist noted was the excellent craftsmanship of my prior dental work.

Blessings & peace to all.

I became Tim's patient just after he went into private practice. Soon after my mother also became his patient. He was our dentist forever. My mother and I loved him. He was an excellent dentist and a wonderful human being. His patients were #1. He truly care about his patients. He was a saint and will never be forgotten. I will always miss him.

Tim has been on heart for months. Somehow I knew he wasnt well. This morning I searched again for him on the web. My heart is grieved to learn of his passing.
Tim was there for me 17 years ago when I was going through some very difficult times and gave me very wise and honest advice.
Tim truly had a heart of gold and I loved him with a deep admiration. Tim gave to me more than I ever gave him.
God Bless you Tim, you were my true friend in whom I deeply trusted and loved.

Tim and I went to both North Salinas High and San Jose State. While at State Tim wanted me to become a member of his fraternity but it wasn't meant to be. I can still remember the first small house Tim and his wife lived in on 9th Street. We both shared a mutual friendship with Professor Henry Murphy, a top notch teacher of histology, anatomy, and physiology. After time graduated and went to Dental School we lost contact but I STILL have memories of him strolling down the halls of NSHS with all those Track Medals hanging from his letterman sweater. I lost a good friend in Tim's passing and hope he is resting in peace!
