Michael Gutierrez Obituary

MICHAEL E. GUTIERREZ Michael E. Gutierrez, "Matches", passed away on July 5, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona. He was born on November 7, 1946, in Trinidad, Colorado to Abe Gutierrez and Mabel Zamora. Mike attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, and Trinidad High School class of "64". He served in the Colorado National Guard from 1966 to 1972. Mike earned an associate degree from Trinidad State Junior College. He was an avid golfer and a Broncos and Arizona Wildcats fan. Mike was married to Karla Hall for 50 years. He worked for IBM in Denver for 20 years then transferred to Tucson, Arizona, where he retired after 42 years of service. Mike is survived by his three children: Christopher (Becky), David, and Manni, and grandchildren Devon Wyman, Jasmine Vasquez, Emilio Gutierrez-Corona, Rene Gutierrez, Tony Burdine, Gabriel Hanaford, and Anthony Hanaford. He is also survived by his siblings: Shirley Valdez (dcsd Lloyd), Carol Ritter (Jerry), Paul "Turtle" (Michelle); his nieces and nephews: Renae Padilla (Geoff), Joe Valdez (Amy), and Ashley Ritter Broker (Roman), and their children Jordan Padilla, Aubrey Padilla, Andrew Valdez, and Lauren Valdez. "Matches" loved Trinidad and had many memories that he often shared with his family. Trinidad was his favorite vacation spot and he always called Juge Monarco from Raton Pass to go grab a booth at Lee's Barbeque.
