Matthew Delude Obituary

WILLIMANTIC

ROANOKE, VA

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Matthew Delude of Roanoke, Virginia at age 42, on September 24, 2024, a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a man of exceptional kindness, compassion, honesty, intelligence and integrity. He found peace in nature and with his many friends and close family.

We remember him as an adventurer, philosopher, and great encourager of all that we aspired to do and be. In his journey through life, Matt volunteered for Hospice of Connecticut, was a downhill skier and snowboarder, a black belt in Shotokan karate, he traveled the world, went skydiving, conquered Class 5 whitewater rapids, was a spelunker in caves that were challenging to experts, and hiked hundreds of miles of the Appalachian Trail with his father. As a student, he achieved the Dean's List every semester. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in chemical engineering.

He loved science and researching how the world works. He found logic quite comforting, and was inspired by the natural world and all of its mysteries. He was a patient teacher and mentor to anyone who asked for his help.

He worked at Pfizer, then for the U.S. Navy and more recently was a scientist at Novonesis.

Matt is survived by his parents, Mark and Patricia Delude, his brother, Chris Delude, his sister, Blaze Schwaller, his niece, Alvina Schwaller, his godparents, Joanne and Jon Graham, his maternal grandmother, Corinne Lavin, aunts, uncle and cousins. They all had the very best times together.

Matt's memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness, wisdom and love. You will be missed Matt.

A Celebration of Matt's Life will be held on Sunday, October 27th at the Sprague Rod and Gun Club, 90 Bushnell Hollow Road in Baltic from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Dear Mark and Patricia and family - my heart is so heavy for you all. I am so sad to learn of Matt´s passing. I worked directly with Matt during his time at Pfizer. He was a founding member of a team to develop a new research platform, which would run many experiments at once on very small scale. His pioneering work laid the foundation for the successful implementation of this new technology in our department. I remember his smile, his kind eyes, his thoughtful manner, his soft but strong voice, and his outstanding work ethic. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a comfort to you all.

Mark and family-
I am so saddened to hear of Matt´s passing. He and I worked together and shared an office at Pfizer. I loved hearing of his adventures whitewater kayaking and remember him as a very kind and thoughtful man. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you navigate this immensely difficult time.
