Richard McKay Obituary

Richard Blaine McKay, 85, DuBois, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Penn Highlands Brookville.

Born Dec. 1, 1939, he was the son of the late Howard and Marian McKay of Brockway.

On September 16, 1961, he married Diann Smith at Methodist Church, Brockway. They were married for 63 years.

In 1967, he graduated from Brockway Area High School and played football, wrestled and played baseball. He was in the Army as a sharpshooter stationed in Germany. He was employed at Brockway Glass building glass furnaces for thirty years in 23 countries. He also established the McKay trucking business for 20 years and greatly enjoyed traveling and meeting the challenges of deadlines. Upon retirement, Rich loved working on projects, creating detailed lists for each and accumulated a tool for every job. He built his dream workshop. He was known as the neighbor with the tools to complete any construction or landscaping project, no job was too big. Residents of Treasure Lake still enjoy the picnic tables, archery range and the Bimini boat dock he upgraded in addition to the playground at Treasure Lake Church. Rich was known for his passion to train others and teach them construction skills that could be continued on to future generations. His grandchildren were "Grandpa Trained." He enjoyed hunting with his daughters and grandchildren and did puzzles with his great grandchildren. He was very involved in Treasure Lake Sportsman's Club and was a member of Brockway Sportsman Club and Brockway VFW. Rich was extremely social and loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Rich was survived by four daughters: Sharon Esposito of DuBois, Pamela Saucier (John Saucier) of Palm Coast FL, Brenda Shenkle of Reynoldsville and Rhonda Brennen of DuBois; ten grandchildren: Chad Shenkle, Craig Shenkle, Amanda Raybuck, Nathan Brennen, Joey Brennen, Sarah Snyder, Nicholas Esposito, Hannah Saucier, Brianna Van Matre and Joshua Saucier. Richard was blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Knox Shenkle, Paisley Shenkle, Lincoln Shenkle, Bellamy Shenkle, Weston Shenkle, McKayla Raybuck and Lorelei Raybuck.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Norman McKay, and grandson, Johnathan Saucier.

Family and friends will be received at the Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway on Saturday, January 11 from 11 a.m. to noon with the service at 12 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. John Saucier officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwoods Cemetery.

Rich was a leader, a leader who believed in helping others. One cannot say enough about his volunteer work. He is deeply admired for his skill in supervising construction projects, all of which sere done to benefit the community.
A man to be admired, a man to be recognized for achievement, and a man who was steadfast in his love for others, he will remain in our thoughts and prayers... and our appreciation.

May his family be consoled at this time of loss. And may the Lord give him His peace.
