Velma T. Cossaboon, 77, of Deerfield Township died at her home on Monday evening, June 24, 2013, following a six-month illness.
She was born in Sankertown, Pa., on July 2, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Edward William and Florence (Marlett) Plazek. Velma moved to southern New Jersey from western Pennsylvania to begin a career with the Owens-Illinois Glass Company. She later worked at Jamesway and Ames and finally at Parvins Mill Nursery.
Known as the "Day Lily Lady," she grew and sold day lilies near her home on Morton Avenue for many years. She enjoyed collecting pottery and belonged to the Antique Society.
Velma is survived by one daughter, Carol V. Cossaboon, at home; one grandson, Jeffery W. Lehman Jr. of Pennsville; her son-in-law, Jeffery W. Lehman Sr. of Pennsville; three sisters, Marlene Marie Ewing, Sylvia May Lee and Carol Ann Plazek; four brothers, Ronald Thomas Plazek, Edgar Francis Plazek, Paul Plazek and Leonard James Plazek; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Joanne M. Lehman in 1998 and Cynthia Cossaboon in 2002; and a brother, Howard Plazek.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, on Friday afternoon, June 28th, at 3 o'clock, where friends will be received from 2 until 3.
The interment will take place at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 1851 E. Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
