Janet Fuller Obituary

Janet K. Fuller 67, died Saturday December 21, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI.

Janet was born Tuesday, February 19, 1946, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Janet was the only child of Frank DeWitt and Helen Elizabeth (Gillespie) Pease. She lived in Highland Park and Detroit until the age of ten, completing fifth grade at Horace Mann Elementary School. In the summer of 1956, she moved with her parents to Coldwater where she spent the rest of her life.

Janet was a 1963 graduate of Coldwater High School and a 1967 graduate of the University of Michigan. She received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education Summa Cum Laude from Western Michigan University in 1980. Janet began her teaching career at Edison Elementary School in the fall of 1967, teaching second grade. Over the next 30 years she taught third, fourth, and fifth grade at Edison, retiring in 1999 as the person who taught the longest in that building.

During this period, she also served as the Title I Mathematics Consultant for the Coldwater Community Schools for five years. Prior to and following her retirement she was an adjunct instructor of mathematics at the Grahl Center Campus of Kellogg Community College until 2008. She was also an instructor at Baker College.

Janet was a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church for over 50 years. During that time she served as the church treasurer and financial secretary for a number of years. She was also a member of the Branch County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and a former member of the National, Michigan, and Coldwater Education Associations, the latter of which she shared the Presidency for a period of time. She was also a past member of the National and Michigan Councils of Teachers of Mathematics, the Coldwater Lady Elks, and the Women's Monday night and Teachers' Bowling leagues.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Wayne Fuller, whom she married June 3, 1967; two daughters: Marcia Fuller (Christopher Allen) of North Liberty, Iowa, and Karen Fuller of Coldwater; two grandsons, Zachary and Alexander Gregurich of Coldwater; and a step-grandson, Sean Allen of Omaha, Nebraska. She is also survived by in-laws Shirley and Gene Easterday of Union City, Sharon and James Parker of Howe, Indiana; and Roger and Naomi Fuller of Coldwater. Also surviving are cousins James and Sally Roach of Kalamazoo and Carolyn (Rusty) and Jack Fay of Gilbert AZ and Littleton, CO., four nieces, a nephew and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday December 27, 2013 at the Coldwater United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Young officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Coldwater. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday December 26, 2013 at the Gillespie Funeral Home, Coldwater.
