Daniel Cassel Herr, 82, of Louisville, Tennessee peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Dan was born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania on December 16, 1942, to Carl and Elizabeth Herr. Dan was a graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and served as an architect for Clemson University for over 30 years. During his tenure at Clemson, he designed many buildings on campus. Some of the family's favorites are the Outdoor Lab and the Visitor's Center which still stand today, but his most visible design was his first project. He was responsible for laying out C-L-E-M-S-O-N in the upper deck of Death Valley, Clemson University's football stadium (T-I-G-E-R-S was added years later). In addition to his architectural work, Dan had a passion for gardening, sports, astronomy, swimming, and all animals, but his faith was his greatest passion. In Dan's Bible, he left a note to his family entitled, "Upon My Death Demise (tag you're it!!)" that read, "Foremost, I want kids, grandkids, sisters, friends, and everyone to have known that I always was a Christian. Everything else is second to my heart."
Dan is survived by his two sisters Jane Braginsky of NY and Sally Lowe of WV; his three daughters; Sheri Wilson of Meridian, ID, Marianne Glaser of Hoschton, GA, and Michele Stancil of Morganton, GA; and six grandchildren Nathan Wilson (22), Amber Wilson (19), Kathryn Glaser (17), Harrison Glaser (15), Grant Stancil (15), and London Stancil (13). He is predeceased by his sister Nancy Puckett.
Per Dan's wishes, a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21st at Grandview Cemetery Chapel in Maryville, TN followed by a gathering at Springbrook Park in Alcoa, TN.
In lieu of flowers, Dan requested memorials be made to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library - Books for Kids (https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com).
