Alexander Lazuk Obituary

Lisbon - Alexander Jon "Al" Lazuk, 72, of Lisbon, passed away at home Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Al was born in Norwich Feb. 23, 1952, the son of Eleanor (Bawza) Lazuk and Alexander Lazuk.

He has one sister, Cheryl (Lazuk) Grant and two brothers, Tim Lazuk and Tom Lazuk. Al, aka "Buzzy" married his soul mate Cynthia (Gunn) Lazuk April 23, 1983. Their love remained through thick and thin for 41 and a half years.

Al was a science teacher at Norwich Free Academy for 39 years, first teaching biology then marine biology. He earned his master's degree at University of Connecticut and was involved with Project Oceanology for many years. While at NFA he won four year book dedications by senior classes, but being the gracious person he was he relinquished two of the dedications to the runners-up.

His passions were fishing with his best buddy, Dr. Eric Covino of Preston, playing his many guitars, and spending time with Cynthia and their two Papillion dogs, Kiku and Hany.

He will be devastatingly missed by all who knew and care for him.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at St. Patrick Cathedral, 213 Broadway, Norwich, meeting directly at church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Ave, Norwich.

His family asks that donations in his memory be made to Al's favorite cause, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at www.stjude.org.

Mr. Lazuk was the best! Anyone who was lucky enough to have him as a teacher. I´m sure anyone else who got to experience him, shares the sentiment.

Cindy, I´m so very saddened to see this. I always call you Mrs. Lazuk because I could never call him anything, but Mr. Lazuk. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. I am away and won´t be able to attend his funeral. But I will message you the next time. I´m in town and will have another little get together at the location of your choice and just laugh and share some funny stories. May God bless you all.

Cindy, Cheryl, Tom, Tim, Kiku, Hany, & familes:

How sorry I am to hear of Buzzy's passing. I last spoke with him at my dad, Uncle Leo's, celebration of life gathering. We reminisced, and though he was in visible pain, Buzzy spoke with vigor and sincerity. Tears of gratitude fell down his cheeks as I packed a to go box and walked with him. Buzzy, truth be told, it's we who are forever grateful for the difference you made in the many lives you touched.
On a personal note, as a little girl I knew when the Lazuk's arrived at Bobki & Grampy's on Easter day, mischief would ensue! We always played "Tap the Egg" until a champion was declared. Uncle Al would plant a dyed, raw egg among the hard boiled ones. Whomever unknowingly chose the raw egg would undoubtedly lose and be a slimy mess! Uncle Al's distinct, contagious laugh will live on in my treasure trove of memories.
Buzzy was always a good sport & a gentleman. Though Buzzy can no longer be hugged with the arms of those who loved him so much, he CAN be collectively hugged with our hearts... love transcends space & time...
Buzzy, please give Aunt Punk & Uncle Al a hug for me..Maybe you can fish with my dad..and play guitar with Uncle Fred
"No goodbyes, only love..."

Cindy, Cheryl, Tom, and Tim, I am so sorry to hear Buz has passed on. Even though it has been so many, many years since I last saw him, I do remember his kind and generous ways as we grew up together, such as when after he got his driver´s license he would pick me up to go fishing with him at the Club or when he got his first guitar he tried, unsuccessfully but with characteristic good humor, to teach me how to play chords. His good soul has gone on from this world to a better one. My sincerest condolences on your loss and God bless you all.
