Benjamin Flickner Obituary

Groton - Benjamin Adam Flickner. April 8, 1986 - Sept. 16, 2018.

Ben's life was too short, but in that brief time he brightened the lives of so many. His smile, kind heart and snarky sense of humor were a ray of sunshine. Ben could always make you smile.

Ben was the much loved son of Paul W. and Linda Drake Flickner of Groton; the adored brother of Amanda Flickner of Groton, Alisa Flickner of New London and Brianna Flickner of Ledyard; the favorite uncle of Gisela, Ashton and Michael.

He was a 2004 graduate of Fitch High School, earned his Associate's degree from Three Rivers and his Bachelor's degree from Northeastern University. Ben resided in Brookline, Mass. and was employed as the Dean's Executive Assistant at Northeastern's College of Social Sciences and Humanities.

An outdoor celebration of Ben's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the pavilion at Bethel Park, 1762 Center Groton Road (Route 117), Ledyard. There are no visiting hours.

Ben gave of his time to Haley House, 23 Dartmouth St., Boston, MA 02116. Donations can be made to that address or online at haleyhouse.org.

Ben- You were a special kind of guy. Very outgoing and fun to be around. While we parted ways after I moved out of the area, I will always think back on our weekend nights out with friends fondly.

To the Flickner family I would like to express my sympathy over the loss of Ben. As his former kindergarten teacher I can say that he (and Amanda) were two of my favorite students. The memory of Ben's smile and his enthusiasm will stay with me forever. Stay strong.
