Daniel Ewers Obituary

New London - A wonderful friend, devoted husband, loving parent, fun-loving and fantastic uncle, and all-around people person, Daniel "Dan" Charles Ewers passed away unexpectedly May 7, 2024, in New London. Dan was born June 17, 1981, to Charles and Michele Ewers of Gales Ferry.

He graduated from Ledyard High School in 1999, and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut in 2003. He married Whitney (Stanley) Ewers Sept. 18, 2011, and they welcomed their daughter Raylin, now seven, June 20, 2016.

For the past decade, Dan worked at Foxwoods Casino, first bartending at Burke's Prime and then as a member of the butler service. His career in the service industry and loyalty to his employers proved that his gift to the world was to make one feel so appreciated and comfortable that they had no other needs than to enjoy life while in his presence. Those who found themselves there were sure to laugh hard, feel welcome, and be amazed by his quick wit. If someone needed help, Dan was there, giving his all to his family, friends and co-workers. His perseverance was the hallmark of his stand-up nature. In high school he was an ECC All Star and State Class L wrestling champion, leading the legendary Ledyard team to their first state title in eleven years in 1999. He never turned down a challenge in leisure sports as well, excelling at golf when his wrestling days were done. A camping enthusiast, he loved the outdoors, and was a barbecue master whether hosting or visiting. When not with his wife and daughter, he relished being with family and friends. Simply, he loved people. An animal lover as well, he could easily engage with any dog, but his special talent was being a cat whisperer.

Dan is survived by his wife Whitney; and daughter Raylin of New London; his parents, Charlie and Michele Ewers of Gales Ferry; his older brother Mike, wife Rachel and nephews, Asher and Roran and nieces, Cecelia, Guinivere and Esmé of Franklin, N.H.

A Celebration of Dan's Life will be held at 10 a.m. this Saturday, May 18, at All Souls Universalist Unitarian Church, 19 Jay Street, New London. The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.neilanfuneralhome.com.

I´m so incredibly sorry for your loss! Dan was a great wrestling teammate and a profound leader at such a young age. We all learned how to push ourselves beyond our limits for our team and for ourselves on the mat. I still remember watching him perform one the fastest pins I´ve ever seen at a meet in New York. Dan will be missed.

Very saddened to hear this. Dan was a HS classmate and friend. Memories of playing hoops in his driveway. Very sorry to hear of his passing.
