David Creamer Obituary

Tok, Alaska/North Stonington - It is with our deepest sadness that we report the passing of David Alan Creamer, aka "Mountain Man" on May 24, 2025, as he was living out his dreams of hunting the Alaskan mountainside. Although he left us all much too soon, we will continue to carry on his memory by sharing stories of the most adventurous, courageous, and wildest man we've ever known.

David, also known as "Ol Billy Goat" or "Grandpa Grizz" to those near and dear to him, was born July 5, 1956, in Rockland, Maine to Beatrice and Chester Creamer. He graduated from Montville High School in Montville, in 1974, after receiving multiple wrestling awards. He was an athlete in many areas as he also enjoyed playing baseball, running cross country, and competing in any other challenge he saw fit. Shortly following the end of high school, David married his high school sweetheart, Susan Francis Austin to whom he was married to for 31 years and with whom he had three children, Carolyn, Jill, and Joshua.

David worked at Pfizer for ten years before starting his own successful flooring business known as Creamer Carpets. Not many people could do in a week what he would do in a day, nor could they have done it for the 30-plus years that he did. Many tried and failed; realizing that working for David Creamer was not worth the "hate and discontent". His work ethic and determination became some of the many characteristics that we learned to appreciate about him.

From an early age, David loved the thrill of hunting and adventure. For anyone that knew him, this is where his hearing loss started to fail as catching a deer antler in the ear will do that to you. He loved the adventure and traveled around the world to fulfill his dreams. When his son Joshua was 8 years old, David and he started hiking a portion of the Appalachian trail each summer in hopes of completing the entire thing. From the many trips out west to Montana with his father and Joshua to the other side of the world where he traveled to Africa 29 times, New Zealand, Russia, Mongolia, and so many more. He traveled to places many of us can only dream of and had experiences that we can't even imagine. He lived his life to the fullest; he worked hard and played hard to make sure that he was able to spend his time doing what he loved. Over the past few years, he spent many months, including a full year at his home in Alaska building and creating his dream space where he could live, hunt, and enjoy the beauty of the land.

Despite his love for hunting, he also deeply loved his family and friends; many that became like family to him. He became somewhat accustomed to the retired life as he had to be home each evening no later than 7 p.m. in order to watch his nightly television shows including Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and American Idol. He cared little about material things and would often embarrass his children by wearing his dirty taxidermy clothes out in public, but he was also the first one to help the ones that he loved. He supported his children in all of their goals and stayed involved as best he could. He coached Joshua and Jill in Little League baseball, cheered for Carolyn at her Special Olympic races, and encouraged them all to "be aggressive" in whatever they did. His motivation and drive showed through when he rode his bicycle to Keene, N.H. to visit Jill at college one year and when he rode his bicycle to Unadilla, N.Y. to watch Josh race quads. At the time, his children didn't always like or understand his need to work hard or strive for more, but they will treasure those memories now and forever. He will always be known as "Grandpa Grizz" to his grandsons and granddaughter with whom he shared many special memories including games of Jackass basketball, Sunday morning donuts, and endless immature and childish jokes.

David is survived by his wife and forever love, Cindy (Pattison) Creamer, with whom he shared many hunting and travel adventures with and whom was able to appreciate the many quirks about him; Carolyn Elizabeth Creamer; Jill (Jason) Lambert and their three children, Kayleigh, Karter, and Kaleb; Joshua (Amy White) Creamer and their daughter, Addison. His brothers, Arnie Creamer, Kevin (Amy) Creamer, Joel Creamer; and sister Cynthia (Bruce) Dooley; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and special people that have become his family throughout his life. David is predeceased in death by his parents, Chester and Beatrice Creamer.

David never turned down a challenge and he always gave 100% in whatever he did. While the 'Ol Billy Goat is no longer here with us on Earth, we trust that his memory will live on in the stories and memories that we will have forever. Live on Mountain Man and say hello to Rambo for us. We will love you and miss you forever.

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. June 28, 2025, at David Creamer's home. Please come as you are or wear your best Dave Creamer inspired outfit.

Thoughts & prayers are with all Dave's friends & family, there's a lot of them. As one of Dave's neighbors in Alaska, I couldn't of asked for a better one. He was always excited to hear & see what I was doing and of course ask if he could help. He & Cindy were two of the first people I met when I moved to Tok. So sorry he's gone, but we all have stories to tell!

Dave and I go back a long ways. I remember spending Saturday night at his house and getting up 4:00 a.m
Sunday to deliver the Hartford Courant to surrounding towns with his dad in his van, playing football in his yard and how I couldn't believe that he fed coffee grounds to the worms in that big worm box. RIP my old friend.

I was so sorry to hear of David´s passing. I can remember him from 1st grade on. He always lit up when he smiled. His kindness glowed from within. Later in life, he laid carpet in my house with the "help" of Mark Stergio. Those two working together was quite entertaining! Dave worked tirelessly, and Mark gave him his best! When I read of the full amazing life he led, it made me happy to know that he had the opportunity to do it all! When we were growing up in the Manor, you´d never have guessed he´d travel the world. I will always remember him fondly, and pray for comfort for his family at the difficult time. Heaven got another good one. Judy Schowerer Clark

I didn't know YOU personally, but the way my dad spoke about you, you were a wonder to this world. You were the best of the best, you knew what u were talking about and what you were doing! I will neverr forget stepping foot into your basement of mounted exotic and local animals, it was mind blowing! To think 1 person (close to my dad) could have traveled so far and wide around to the world to hunt, eat, & feed a village with ur hunt... MIND blowing! I'm sure Josh will carry on so many of your adventurous traits as he already has! You sure have made an impact on so many lives, I know my dad will be talking about you till his time. RIP, and prayers to all family n friends!

So sorry for your loss. David was such a wonderful guy. I would be way out in the middle of the motocross track working and he always brought me fresh cooked food. The best Bear burgers I have ever tasted and there was always a story about where the meat came from. And when racing out in the middle of nowhere in another state and here he comes through the front gate on his bicycle. The man wasn't human!!! David was a special person for sure. RIP

My condolences to the Creamer family. Dave was one of my best friends who I worked along side for over 30 years. The first time I met Dave I was remolding a restaurant and could only work at night. There was a knock on the door at 3 am. It was Dave. After working all day he was there to do the tile work. From that day on I was fortunate to be part of his life. He was one of the hardest workers I´ve ever met. Never complained, just grind forward to provide for his family. I will never meet someone so talented in so many ways. Rest in peace my friend. You made my world a better place knowing you.
