He was born in New Haven on Aug. 19, 1945, son of the late Jeremiah and Mary Richardson Shine. Denis graduated from Fairfield University and the University Of Connecticut School of Law. As an active member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, New London, Denis served as a Eucharistic Minister and was involved in many of the churches Inter Cultural Outreach Programs.
Denis served his country in the Connecticut National Guard and his fellow man in the Peace Corp in Iran.
Denis was the beloved husband of Roseanne Taylor and loving father of Ashley Collins Shine of Salem, N.H., Sarah Shine London and her husband, Michael, of New York City, and Jessica Taylo, of Springfield, Mass.; grandfather to Trevor Faulls; and brother to Jeremiah Shine, of Cheshire and Florida, Daniel Shine, of Isle of Palm, S.C., John Shine, of Old Lyme and New York City, Mary Ann Shine McDonald, of Avon, Theresa Shine Salafia, of Wareham, Mass., and Edward Shine, of Easton. Denis also leaves several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will assemble on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington Street, New London. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Jefferson Avenue, New London. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary Star of the Sea School Scholarship Fund, 10 Huntington Street, New London, CT 06320.

I worked with Mr. Shine for many years at MassMutual. He was a wonderful man. He was such a friendly individual. He always took the time to hold a friendly conversation with you. My prayers are with his family.
