Edward Beebe Obituary

New London - Edward "Ned" A. Beebe, 68, son of the late Arthur and Margaret Neilan Beebe of New London, peacefully passed away on Feb. 20, 2010.

Ned graduated from New London High School in 1960. He enlisted in the Navy and served in the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. John A. Boyle from 1961 to 1965.

After returning to New London, Ned and Lena were married on Feb. 4, 1967, in Sweden. They moved to Willington and opened Willington Termite & Pest Control in 1978, which they built into a thriving business. Over the last forty years Ned contributed to the Town of Willington through a number of appointed and elected positions.

Ned was a Willington volunteer firefighter for 40 years. He served as President of the Willington Hill Fire Department for some of those years and as an EMT for 29 years. He was the Commander of the Willington V.F.W. Post #938 and was an active member of both the Connecticut Pest Control Association and The Eastern CT Sportsman Club. He was an active sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Ned lived life with enthusiasm and enjoyed "making donations" to the casino, keeping up with technology and reading just about anything. He loved his gadgets, the UConn Huskies, a good meal and ice cream.

He and Lena covered thousands of miles in their camper and thousands more on cruise ships. Since retiring five years ago, they spent winters in Florida and continued to travel extensively.

He will be a man remembered for his willingness to help out when asked, his spirit of adventure, his infallible punctuality and his knack for finding a bargain. Friends of all ages will remember his magic tricks and alter-ego "The Great Nedini." Many will remember being the recipient of one of Ned's famous rotisserie turkeys.

A trusted friend to many and friendly acquaintance to even more, Ned impacted many lives with his unique sense of humor and easy going nature.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Lena, and their two children, Christina Beebe Mailhos and Eric Beebe, their spouses, Richard Mailhos and Rebecca Beebe. His grandchildren, Sophia and Richard Mailhos, will miss their "Pop Pop" and his family is happy that Ned lived to meet his infant grandson, Samuel Beebe. He also leaves behind three siblings, Faye Chapman of Cucamonga, Calif., Carol Hartford of San Diego, Calif., and Paul Beebe and his wife, Nadine, of Coventry, R.I.; a sister-in-law, Lotta Ogenstam of Finland, and a brother-in-law, Staffan Linnersten of Florida. Ned also leaves behind several nieces and nephews scattered around the world.

He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, his customers and the community he loved to serve.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at St. Jude's Church in Willington, Conn.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the Ned Beebe Memorial Fund, 246 Jared Sparks Road, Willington, CT 06279.

The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London, is assisting the family.

Lena, Eric and Christina,

I was so sorry to hear of Ned's passing. I think of all of you often. I remember the parties and fun times at the pest control company, the trips to New York and remember them fondly. My daughter still talks about coming over at Christmas and putting up the Christmas tree drinking hot chocolate. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Eric,

Please accept our deepest sympathy for your loss. After running into you at the grocery store the other day and you sharing with me what your father was facing, I was so impressed with how much time you had dedicated to your father's last days. I'm certain he was very proud of you and more importantly, so lucky to have a caring son like you- which i'm certain you will carry on with your new son. God Bless...The Ganci's

The time I worked for Ned & Lena was an experience I won't soon forget.
Ned had a great sense of humor, always joking, given the chance, he was ready to pull a prank or two, especially with that pet Mongoose of his.
Ned was a friendly & generous man. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be missed.
Lena, Eric, & Christina, our thoughts & prayers are with you during these trying times. May your cherish memories bring you comfort.

Dear Lena,Eric and Christina We are sad to loose such a good friend;life will not be the same without him;there will be a void no one else can ever fill. He will always be in our hearts. He always had a joke for me everytime I saw him or a magic trick. Of course don't forget his potato gun.Lena and your dad and Larry and I went on many cruises together and of course a stop at the local casino to do as Ned and Larry would call Work.

I only knew Ned for a short period of time. However, my mother was a very good friend of his. I remember going with him and my brothers dad and a few other friends to Wrights Chicken Farm. He always said "Its your own fault if you go home hungry." I was only 15 the first time we went and he asked me as we drove into the state of Rhode Island "Am I going to get in trouble for bringing a minor across state lines?" He was such a great man. I could tell even if I only knew him for a short time he was a very genuine man and full of life & energy. My deepest sympathy to the Beebe family. You are in my thoughts and Prayers.

Hi Eric,
I was so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. When I first started in real estate in the early '80s, Ned was one of the people I learned to count on for anything to do with "bugs". And thru the years I always felt comfortable calling him to do work for my clients. He was truely a beautiful person and will be missed.
My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

Dear Lena,Christina and Eric,
I mourn the loss of Ned. He was a fun guy to be around and he truly had a unique sense of humor. I'm glad I got to know him and enjoyed shooting with him at the club. I'll remember him with a smile as I recall him in his big cowboy hat waving us into park at the club clambake. He will be missed.

Ned was the first termite inspector I met when I began in Real Estate in 1986. Upon meeting him, he immediately made you feel at ease. Throughout the years, I trusted his work and advice, and always looked forward to being greeted by that wonderful smile. I will miss him. Sincere sympathy to Eric and the family.
