Francis McDermott Obituary
He graduated from Norwich Tech in 1965. Upon graduation he joined the Navy, Seabees Unit and was sent to Vietnam. He spent most of his deployment in the Da Nang region building bridges and look out huts.
In 1967 he married the love of his life Susan Goodpasture in Pomona, Calif. They moved back to Norwich where they raised their three children, Joseph, Kerry and Lynn.
Michael "Fran" continued his education at Thames Valley Technical College while working for the state of Connecticut in the transportation department. He retired in 1988 as deputy commissioner of waterways in charge of New London state pier.
After retirement he moved his family to California and then settled in Golden Valley, Ariz.
He was sadly predeceased by his daughter Kerry. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Joseph and Lynn; four brothers, Brian, Dennis, Bob and Tom; and his sister Colleen Depasse.
He will be lovingly remembered for his sense of humor and his love and pride of his family, country and Irish heritage.
Services are private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Patrick's School, 213 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360.

To Colleen, Brian, Bob, Dennis, and Tom I'm sad to hear of your brother Michael's passing. I never really got to know Michael as well as the rest of you, but those conversations in your Moms kitchen included things happening about all of you. Your all in my thoughts. Love Diane

I remember the last time I saw Michael. We had traveled to Connecticut to celebrate a birthday for his Mom, my Aunt Eileen. We talked for quite some time and compared family updates. I learned that his son Joseph was in Alaska and I told him that my daughter was going to be performing near Joe. Well, that casual conversation led Joe to connect with his second cousin Kate that neither had ever met. Michael’s family was so important to him. I am so glad that I had just written to him within the past two weeks to let him know that I thought of him. A wonderful man.
