He was born in Adams, Mass., on Jan. 30, 1949, the son of Domenic and Agnes L'Ecuyer Messina.
Greg graduated from Robert E. Fitch Sr. High in 1968 and served in the U. S. Naval Submarine Service during the Viet Nam War. He also attended Thames Valley Technical College following his service in the Navy.
He then had worked at Pfizer and then he was a physical plant operator for the State of Connecticut at Avery Point.
He enjoyed mountain biking, music, and spending time with his wonderful children as well as being an avid NY Yankees fan. He also had participated in and coached baseball and softball teams.
He is survived by two children, a son, Adam Messina and a daughter, Lauren Messina, both of Mystic. He is also survived by his wife, Dorothy Hylen Messina, and a step son, William Kerley, of Jewett City; two sisters, Marie Curtis, of Durham and Gwen McTigue, of Groton; a brother, Michael Messina, of Groton; four nieces and nephews and five grand nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10 o'clock at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Rte 12, Gales Ferry. Interment with military honors will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton. Visiting hours will be on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St.
