Guy Mangs Obituary

Old Lyme - Guy Randall Mangs, 74, passed away peacefully Jan. 20, 2021, at his home in Old Lyme, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief battle with cancer. Guy was born in New Haven, Sept. 23, 1946, to the late Carl and Margaret Mangs. Guy was the beloved husband of Laura Schneck Mangs for over 35 years and the proud, devoted and loving father of four wonderful children: Chelsea Mangs, Zachary Mangs and his girlfriend, Melody and children, Spencer Mangs and his wife Deanna and Carly Mangs and her boyfriend Bill. Besides his wife and children, Guy is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Robin Mangs and Robert Reutenauer; his brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Kimberly Mangs; his sister-in-law Charlotte Mangs; his brother-in-law Merrill Preston; and his father-in-law William D. Schneck. Guy was predeceased by his loving siblings, Bonnie Preston and Geoffrey Mangs. Guy also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Following his father's sacrifice for the country, Guy proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a crew chief on the B-52 bomber. After the war, he spent time traveling the world and experiencing new adventures. Guy then began a career as a well-respected and hard-working salesman for Brescome Barton, Inc. for over 36 years where he shared many close relationships with his loyal customers.

Above anything, Guy enjoyed spending time with his family at their summer home in Chatham, Cape Cod. He also enjoyed golfing, UConn basketball, frequent visits to Bill's Seafood and annual trips to Woodstock, Vt. with Laura, his wife and best friend. Guy was known for his love of animals. This started with his childhood horse, Barney, and continued with the many pets that he allowed his children to bring home.

Prior to his passing, Guy was looking forward to the birth of his future granddaughter in July. His memories and life lessons will continue to be passed on for generations to come. Guy had a big heart and enjoyed helping those in need.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to ASPCA, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children. A celebration of Guy's life will be held at a later day to honor his legacy.
