Janet Messina

Quaker Hill - Janet Messina, 83, of Quaker Hill, passed away peacefully Feb. 25, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Plainfield, N.J., Janet brought her vibrant spirit to Connecticut in 1982, where she built a life filled with warmth and connection.

She was predeceased by her husband Charlie Messina; her mother Vivian Hubert; father David Coleman; and brother David Coleman Jr. Janet's memory will be cherished by her son Rick Silva; her sister Laura Whigham; and a wide circle of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

For many years, Janet served Connecticut College with dedication, first as head of housekeeping and later as a skilled seamstress. Her hands, both strong and gentle, left their mark on the campus and on the lives of those she encountered.

Janet possessed a playful spirit, evident in her cherished collection of Pink Panther memorabilia, and a deep affection for animals, providing a loving home to many throughout her life. Her generosity and vibrant personality were a source of inspiration, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

A private celebration of Janet's life will be held by her family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society in Quaker Hill, CT, reflecting her lifelong love for animals. The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London is assisting the family with the arrangements.
