Justin Schrage Obituary

Mystic - Justin Thomas Schrage of Mystic went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018. He was 38 years young.

Justin was born March 6, 1980 at the Groton Naval Subase Hospital. He is the son of Thomas and Dorothy Schrage, also of Mystic. He attended Stonington High School, where he played football and ran track. He was a star running back. He graduated from DeVry University receiving his bachelor's degree in security management. Justin was a proud U.S. Army veteran having served in the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry (1/27) Honolulu, Hawaii and was honorably discharged in 2004. He attended Groton Bible Chapel.

Justin was a fun-loving guy who valued family and loved passionately. He was a loyal friend, he had hard shell, but a soft heart. He loved to cook and to build and work with computers. The creator of Ragin' Geek hot sauces, and the builder of many high-performance computers, he took pride in being labeled the computer geek, and a mad-scientist in the kitchen. He was a verbose cheerleader of his two awesome kids whom he loved madly, as well as a champion of the downtrodden and overlooked. Justin was a presence. He was genuine and kindhearted, and he has made an indelible mark on the lives of all he touched.

In addition to his parents, Justin is survived by his two loving children, Ava and Aidan, and their mother, Vanetta Schrage of Pawcatuck; his brothers, Matthew Schrage of Boston, Mass. and Daniel Schrage and his wife, Lara, of Mystic; his sisters, Krystin Bisson of Westerly and Dawn Ysais and her husband, Steve, of Texas; his grandparents, Herman and Roberta Wessels; and his grandfather, Clifford Schrage Sr. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and staunchly loyal friends, all of whom loved him dearly.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Mystic Funeral Home in Mystic.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Groton Bible Chapel, 66 Tollgate Road, Groton.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to a Veterans program of your choice.

Thinking of you, Justin, and remembering fondly many wonderful memories from our childhood. We all love and miss you. Take care of Grandpa who recently joined you ... I’m sure he’s up for one of his famous races with his grandkids.

Heartbroken does not even begin to express the sentiment that I'm certain everyone is feeling. Words have not even been created to express how tragic this is. It was impossible to meet Justin and not remember him. He made a mark on so many lives and the best of him will live on in his beautiful children.

Tom (and the entire Schrage family):

My heart was broken when I heard the news of your loss. Since the days when our children played Little League baseball and then high school football, I have always considered you a dear friend. I am sure that the soothing words you spoke to me when I needed them most also helped shape Justin's life and those of your other children. I would say "God bless you", but having given you and your wife a son like Justin, it's obvious he already has.

Eternal Blessings with Cross Vase
