Ronald "Ron" Cini

1934 - 2022

Mystic - Ronald "Ron" Cini, 87, of Mystic, passed away peacefully March 16, 2022, in Mystic. He was born June 19, 1934, in New London, to the late Tulio and Mildred (Ferguson) Cini.

He is survived by four sisters, Marilyn Caputo of Groton, Patricia Grow and her husband Rod of Plainfield, Nora Paul of Waterford, and Kathleen Cubanski and her husband Martin of North Stonington; and two brothers, Terence Cini and Joyce of North Stonington, and Gary Cini and his wife Cindy of New Hampshire; and Sally Cini of Niantic. He was predeceased by his brother David Cini of Niantic.

A Mass of Christian burial was held March 23, 2022.

An avid reader, with a curious mind, Ron was always seeking more knowledge. He especially enjoyed Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn tales. His favorite anecdotes: "You can't beat fun" and the cook's creed "KISS." An excellent cook, Ron was equally comfortable cutting prime rib for 200 or carving the Thanksgiving turkey. He worked at a variety of places, including permittee for Mystic VFW, bar manager at Sub Vets and Lighthouse Inn and senior bartender at the Flood Tide Restaurant. A music enthusiast, Ron especially loved big band sounds such as Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Count Basie and Stan Kenton and vocalists Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. He proudly served as a military policeman on the Panama Canal, loved attending races at Lime Rock and enjoyed hunting.

Always a gentleman, with excellent manners, Ron was the ideal guest and trustworthy friend to all. He will be remembered by his siblings and others with love and a smile. His presence on this earth filled many hearts.
