Ruth Berube Obituary

Windham - Ruth Joyce Taylor Berube entered the peace and rest of her Lord Jan. 6, 2025. She was 92 years old. Ruth lived her whole life in the Willimantic area. She was born at Windham Community Memorial Hospital Feb. 18, 1932, and raised by her parents Frederick Franklin and Mildred More Taylor. She was the younger sister of George Coleman Taylor. Ruth's parents and brother all predeceased her.

Ruth attended the Windham Public Schools, graduating from Windham High School with the Class of 1949. Ruth married George Joseph Berube in October of 1958, and they built their home on Adams Heights in Lebanon. She lived there the rest of her life until moving to the St. Joseph Living Center in 2019. Ruth and George welcomed a son, David George, and a daughter, Joyce Ann into their lives, living into the future they dreamed for themselves until George's premature death from cancer at age 39. Ruth remained single the rest of her life.

Throughout her life, Ruth was employed as a bookkeeper, receptionist, and office worker for the O.L. Willard Company, Barkers Department Stores, the Chronicle newspaper, and First Church of Mansfield. She was also co-owner of J&H Florist in Willimantic. Ruth's church life was particularly important to her. For much of her life, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Willimantic, later joining First Church of Christ, Mansfield. Once becoming a resident of St. Joseph Living Center, she regularly attended weekly worship and was faithful in daily Bible and devotional reading.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Joyce Ann Berube of Sacramento, Calif., and her husband Bashir; her son David George Berube of Oak Bluffs, Mass., and his wife Ellen; and her grandson, Joshua David Berson of Fitchburg, Mass., and his spouse Echo. Ruth's family thanks all her devoted friends and the wonderful staff at St. Joseph Living Center. Your generosity and giving of yourselves was a blessing in Mom's life and ours.

Ruth's family will receive relatives and friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, with her service of remembrance and celebration to follow at 11:3 0a.m. Burial will follow at the New Willimantic Cemetery. Donations in Ruth's memory may be made to St. Joseph Living Center, 14 Club Road, Windham, CT 06280, or your favorite charity. I am just seeing this. My mother (Thelma Beaulieu) was friends with your mother. My sister and I spent time at your house. Sorry for your loss.

Ruth was a wonderful woman with a great sense of humor. She was a loving and caring Mother to David and Joyce. I appreciated presence and support in First Baptist Church when I served there in the mid 70´s through the mid 80´. May you enjoy the fellowship of the Saints in glory Ruth.
