William Gebo Obituary

Jewett City - William J. Gebo Sr. of Jewett City, died suddenly Dec. 31, 2020, of natural causes. He was born Jan. 20, 1951.

He graduated in 1969, from Norwich Technical High School, also completing the plumbing and heating trades course. After graduating, he worked for several plumbing contractors which led him to get his masters license and start his own business where his two sons had the opportunity to work with him learning the trade. At William Gebo Plumbing and Heating, he supported his family for nearly two decades before joining the Connecticut plumbers union in 2000. In May 2019, he retired.

In March 1972, he married Maureen Bernier and had two sons, William Jr. and Brian. He was a man of many skills and abilities and he used these to help others. He was a loving father who always made sure his family was taken care of, even through difficult times. He was very generous and caring of others and often helped them in their time of need whether it was getting their heat going in the middle of a winter night, stranded on a roadside or with advice in life. He was often known for his reserved, quiet nature, but when he spoke to people, those who knew him were ready to listen. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling with his wife and family, going to the beach, walking his dogs and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife Maureen; sons, William Jr. and Brian; as well as his sister Carol Robbins. He was predeceased by his father John Gebo Sr.; and mother Mary Gebo; brothers, John Jr., Robert and Thomas; and sister Janet. He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Bill was a great, upbeat guy and a very talented plumber. One of the best plumbers I've known but more importantly a great person who was always willing to help anyone in need. My best wishes to Maureen and family.

I remember Bill for his quiet insight, into a host of issues, at our early age given as we were just in high school and hormones were raging in many...
I have not seen him since our days at Norwich Tech...
I recall enjoyable times with this soul and wept, perhaps not understandably, when I heard of his passing...
