William Rogers Obituary

Groton - William Stephen "Bill" Rogers Jr., 95, died Dec. 17, 2022, at Complete Care at the Groton Regency. Bill was born April 21, 1927, in Newport, R.I., to the late William and Mary Rogers. He eventually moved to New London where he met and married his wife of 56 years, Marion Dorsey Rogers. He resided in New London until Marion's passing, when he moved to Solstice Senior Living and ultimately Groton Regency Retirement communities in Groton.

He is survived by his sister Ann Sullivan of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; son Stephen Rogers of Waterford; daughter Paula Reynolds of Manchester; son Phillip Rogers and his wife Lynn of Bluffton, S.C.; grandchildren, Laura Reynolds of East Hartford, Robert Reynolds of Uncasville, Ashley Shasha and husband Mark Emilyta; and great-granddaughter Makenzie Emilyta. He was predeceased by his wife Marion; and his sister Barbara Zitolli.

Bill had an affinity for numbers and ultimately received a degree in accounting from Mitchell College. He spent most of his accounting career at Doherty, Beals, & Banks, P.C. in New London. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Notre Dame football and the Miami Dolphins.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Groton Regency and the team at Beacon Hospice for the care and compassion shown toward Bill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at St. Joseph's Church, 17 Squire Street, New London. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church.
